Aloha !
Right then, full review for Oasis gig #2 of this tour.
Gig was cancelled last time and we only found out about it when we arrived at the venue, which was a bit shit to be honest. Dusseldorf isn't really a lovely town to go for a walk or something so we decided to skip it this time. Instead, we watched a few DVD's of the Lost Highway tour (Randers was an excellent show, damnit!) and I showed Thierry I could play Harlem Rain properly. All I needed was a guitar that stayed in tune and sadly that Stagg of his, pardon me, his dad, isn't one of them.
Went of a few hours later and Thierry's brilliant one liners soon followed. Sadly I can't remember any of them anymore, but we were on a roll again. We hadn't had any dinner yet and with me and him both not having a proper McDonalds meal in a long time we decided it was time again for a good old meal of junkfood. Thierry really wanted to, because "they had good burgers lately" and I went for the good old chicken nuggets (20) and a groβe pommes mit mayonaise. We finished it off with a McFlurry and thought it was time to see if there was any action at the venue yet. It was a bit busier than last time and I realized what a difference it was with Belgium. When me and my brother arrived in Belgium it was only 30 people waiting outside, here it was about 300 people waiting. We, polite as we were, joined the que instead of skipping it like we normally do, and I went off to insult some German douchebags. There was one with a mustache who just went on about typical German sayings, to which I replied that a typical Dutch saying was "People with a mustache don't get laid". One of his friends laughed out loud, I asked him where he was from because he sounded like an American, and it turned out he was from Long Island, UK. I told him he sounded like someone from Texas and gone was his laughter. He asked me why I said such things to which I replied that I could say whatever I wanted to, I'm 6"8 so no one's going to argue with me anyway. Silence.
When the doors opened we didn't bother with getting a good spot in the front row but actually just got near the soundboard and sat down watching the fine asses of girls from Germany. Although Thierry didn't think too highly of Oasis fans his opinion changed slightly when he found out that Oasis fangirls actually very often look decent instead of the horrible 50-year-old-but-I-feel-25-women you see at Bon Jovi shows. So far so good.
Support act started, I had no idea who they were and I've still got no idea. They were from Germany, I think, so obviously shit. Thierry started rocking out to them though. No, I'm just kidding, he didn't. As a matter of fact, nobody did apart from the band but I've got to hand it to them, for a band from Germany they were pretty good. Still, I prefer the Hoff.
Roughly at nine o' clock Oasis came on and what a difference this crowd was compared to Belgium! At the time in Belgium I thought it was a great crowd but when looking back they were horrible, this time in Dusseldorf it was different. About everybody in the crowd was jumping up (and down), looked very much like an English show. The seated area was experiencing a different show, I think, because it was hard to find anyone who clapped his hands there, but who cared anyway. Right from the opening song Oasis was into it, and Liam delivered much stronger vocals than he did before. When Lyla was finished I soon realized that Liam's vocals were the best he had ever delivered this tour so far and I hoped it'd stay that way. I looked at Thierry to see if he enjoyed it as much as the other 3.000 people in front of us did, but Thierry wasn't having it at all. Cigarettes & Alcohol, a song that's just made for live shows was brilliant, and this was the first Oasis show in the mainland of Europe of which I thought that the crowd really digged the band. It's also odd how a show with the same set as everywhere else can be so different when a crowd is much better.
The Masterplan really was a highlight. Of the 2 shows before I've never been able to enjoy it. In 2005 I wasn't in the right mindset and can't remember much of it and in Brussels 2009 Noel had a cold and it just didn't feel right. Tonight it did. I got my first goosebumps at a Bon Jovi show (2005, Dry County in Dusseldorf) and this was the second time. The Masterplan was just brilliant, and when a band is capable of delivering such a performance they just can't go wrong anymore.
Here's a bootleg recording I got my hands:

It's odd how I enjoyed this show so much while Thierry was so bored it just wasn't funny anymore. When the show was over I realized that Dusseldorf was the best show of the tour so far (apart from some UK dates) and I left pretty happy. The first thing Thierry did when we sat in the car again was put on some Metallica because he needed a little bit of proper music. It was good though, Metallica's back on track, Oasis are back on track, Bon Jovi are back on track, me and Thierry are back on track, now all I need is a girl with big titties and my life is complete.
Next stop: Rome! Whoohoo!
Salaam Aleikum,
