I didn't like the album either. Not that it was bad, but it's not the kind of music I listen to, and certainly not the kind of music the fans expect from Tom Petty. The only track that I half-enjoyed was No reason to cry. Couldn't care about any other songs.

It *does* sound like Tom Petty. Just an older Tom Petty, very much drawing on his roots: "Tom Petty @ Home".

Will admit, nothing much stood out first listen, but after a few plays "No Reason to Cry", "Pirates Cove", "Don't Pull Me Over" are really great.

It's v. bluesy which I can see won't necessarily grab everyone, particularly stadium rock fans, but tracks like US41, I Should Have Known It, Good Enough etc are all good for kicking back to.

Pretty sure this record will grow, if not become an all time classic.

A quick review of Petty & The Heartbreakers at the Garden last night.

1. Listen to Her Heart
2. You Don't Know How It Feels
3. I Won't Back Down
4. Free Fallin'
5. Oh Well (Fleetwood Mac cover)
6. Mary Jane's Last Dance
7. Honey Bee
8. Breakdown
9. Jefferson Jericho Blues
10. Good Enough
11. The Runnings Man's Bible
12. First Flash of Freedom
13. I Should Have Known It
14. Learning to Fly (acc.)
15. Don't Come Around Here No More
16. Refugee

Encore:
17. Runnin' Down a Dream
18. American Girl

The show itself was spectacular, but 18 songs is a bit short, especially looking at what they didn't play. Also, only having 1 song from Damn The Torpedoes is a sin IMO, with only 3 songs dating before 1989. Also, the 5 Mojo songs in a row really killed the show for a bit, though I guess my apathy toward Mojo had something to do with that. All that being said, it was a great Rock N' Roll experience. The Heartbreakers are one of the tightest bands I've ever seen, probably second only to E-Street. The singalong in Free Fallin' is heavenly.

Jovi isn't the only act cutting prices in advance of a show. I just got an email offering $20 tickets for Petty's show on Wednesday here in Atlanta. I went to TM, and put in the code, and I pulled a pair in a side-stage section of the lower bowl for that price. I'm not surprised by the offer, but I am surprised that it isn't just for nosebleed seats.

Folks, seriously!? No post since 2010? What a shame!
So let me tell you: Last years 4 CD Box Set "Live at the Fillmore - 1997" ist one if not the best Rock & Roll release of the decade. Awesome compilation!

Totally agree - it's superb, well mixed, great performances of many great Tom Petty tracks and loads of great covers too. Obie should take note.
