I think, noone said, that U2 is crap or untalented. They're good. It's evident, but if they do a shit, they will get very good critics and awards, and that isn't good.

'All That You Can't...' was a great album, I really thought that they could continue with that sort of quality, but 'How To...' was a complete let down. It was the biggest disappointment of the year, I had been very much lookng forward to it. Up until then I must admit, I was a bit of a blind U2 follower but I've come to realise, along with the price of their concert tickets and Bono's on-stage preaching (from what I saw of that Chicargo gig, and the Love and Peace or Else war drum business!?), that they have pushed it a bit too far now.

Sorry, that's just my two cents.

That's not true. Zooropa and Pop didn't get critical acclaim only, I remember remember reading very hard reviews about the Pop album and the Pop Mart Tour.

It's possible. I was too little for music and reviews.

I'm with Will on this - 'How To..' was a let down for me as well. Even though I can still not listen to Vertigo without increasing the volume.

It's one my least favourite on there

It's Love & Peace or Else, Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own, City Of Blinding Lights and such for me.

Lyrically, "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own" is beautiful, of course. But as a whole, I just can't stand the song

Well it is a son/father song I can relate to a lot, maybe that's why it doesn't come and get you as much as it comes and gets me.

If I'd listen to it as a mother/daughter song (since the lyrics aren't referring to a father or son specifically), it still wouldn't impress me that much. But: the song as a whole - I really like the lyrics.
