Default Whitesnake - 100 million albums?

Anyone seen this? Is he just exagerrating, or he is flat out lying? He claims he's sold 100 million records. Yeah, and at night, I grow fangs and fur and hunt little babies.

They had 1 very successfull album, and 2 moderately successfull albums. The combined sales of those 3 are about 20 million worldwide (tops). I haven't found one piece of data to support that anything other than one of their GH releases ever even sold 1 million copies.

This article says it as well:

I'm sorry, but no way in hell have they sold 100 million albums. Sounds to me like Coversale and his record company are trying to sound as successfull as Bon Jovi. Nothing against Whitesnake mind you, but that is flat out BS.

I would have said Def Leppard were much bigger in the 80's and generally more successful than Whitesnake ever were, and they're nowhere near the 100 million albums mark.

Whitesnake have released quite a few compilation albums in recent years which may have bumped up record sales quite a bit, but no way could they have made 100 mil. And like you said, only one REAL hit album.

I don't buy that for a minute. Is Coverdale counting everything he's ever appeared on?

That's what I'm thinking.

Given his ego, he's probably counting Led Zeppelin since he did an album with Jimmy Page.

Only reason I'm not 100% certain is, I know they're still a bit of a draw overseas. In the States, they couldn't sell out my bathroom. Given that Bon Jovi has sold about 45 million albums in the US and Whitesnake has sold about 15 million, Whitesnake would have to have outsold Bon Jovi worldwide which I HIGHLY doubt.
