It's late in the argument at this point, but I'm jumping in anyway. Sorry DevilsSon, but I gotta disagree with you this time...I'm also a KISS freak and NONE of the KISS songs you suggested..even God Gave Rock And Roll To You from the 90s...fall under the hair metal category. That was my first thought when I went down your list before I saw Ice's reply next, beating me to the punch.
If you had said Heaven's On Fire, Tears Are Falling, Uh All Night, Crazy Crazy Nights, Hide Your Heart...then there would be no debate...they came out of that period in the 80s, were written with it in mind to fit into that genre and are part of that whole movement.
Had you put Aerosmith Sweet Emotion or Walk This Way, you'd get similar correcting from Aerosmith fans......when it comes to those bands that were already big in the 70s and have lasted on through several decades....the rule is what period the songs came from.
As far as God Gave Rock And Roll To You....that song and the ensuing Revenge album were a return to KISS original sound...moving away from the Hair Band era and more truly getting back to their roots. Ozzy did a similar move at the same time.....Ultimate Sin is hair metal, But No More Tears is not.
As a whole, I'm not big on the Hair Metal label. There are definately bands that label applies to....Poison, Warrant, Danger Danger, the Bullet Boys. But the meaning behind the label does not apply to a good chunk of the bands it's been slapped on.
I'm not touching the sales debate cuz I don't give a shti...it has nothing to do with the topic..so you all need to just drop it already. sheesh!
