That's kind of what I'm saying. When used sparingly, you can barely notice it's there and it's a great effect. People think it was dropped between Slippery and Crush but it's been used a bit in tasteful ways. After IML hit it just feels like it's there because it's Richie's "sound".
Off the top of my head:
Prayer, Let's Make it Baby, In These Arms and All I want is Everything (it's in Arms, I promise, very low in the mix for a second), then IML happened and it turned into a gimmick.
IML, Everyday, Bounce, Love me Back to Life, I wanna be loved, Complicated, We got it going on, Put the boy back in Cowboy, Happy Now, Bullet. A bunch of one offs/guest appearances (The Insider theme song, MAYBE the track with LL Cool J. I know there was a pic from the sessions with a talk box). I just don't think it's used creatively enough to warrant it being used as much as it is. I didn't mean to say as much as I did, hah.
