just watched the rumorfix interview and i ll just attempt to see between the lines...richie decided to leave the band mid tour but from his statements back then it was obvious that after he had a small break he wanted back and at that point jon obviously had decided against it...
for me its obvious that they are both angry, richie wants to be back but probably prefers a different pace in order to do some things in his own way...jon probably felt betrayed by his right hand man and obviously keeps a grudge...we are talking here about a guy who followed jon for years and by his words wanted to keep him happy..they have to sort many things out but personally i believe thatrichie would return in a heartbeat if he felt some love&respect from the guys...he is obviously insecure and hurt.
especially the last part, where nikki lund said it will happen imo reflects richies true wishes, richie is too proud/cocky to admit it publicly but her saying that imo tells the whole story. this interview may be some months old but imo is clear that richie wants to be back, there are many things unsolved and may richie comes out as a dick sometimes but his album and mini tour and upcoming tour strengthens his position.
all these are assumptions but this video gave me some more hope..jon has to be the bigger man here and realise that some things have to change in the future. the band would never happen, thrive and still be here without him but if he wants to keep the band together he has make some right choices in the next 1-2 years.

My understanding is that this interview took place last week. Apart from that I totally agree with all you said.

I think what we have here are two men who have a communication problem for quite some time now (even when Richie was still with them) and I guess they need much more time to sort things out. There´s really no reason to make those final decisons now.

for sure they shouldnt rush into anything in order to promote the deluxe editions etc...jon is a smart guy, he is a romantic as well, he could pursuit a solo career back in 1990 instead he wanted the band back, i m confident he will approach richie. but richie shouldnt come back like he lost, some of the dynamics have to change, they ll never be a band of equals, but everyone has to be expressed in order to work. i believe they still have some good songs in them and they always thrived as an underdog.
