Yeah, back in those days Jon seemed to be fighting an invisible enemy.
He's way better these days and I was surprised how "well" he handled the Richie situation. And, btw, If I was Richie in that situation, my daughter would get my full attention. The dangers of being a rich girl in that age, with a mother in that situation, and a father constantly touring were huge for her. |

Most of the time since Richie left, Jon has been looking at the Richie situation coldly, "he did not turn up to work". In that context his narrative works. If I don't fulfill my work contract, I am out of a job even if I have another job. It is a convenient attitude for Jon to have.
The problem is, as another poster said, Jon spent 30 year prior to Richie's departure cultivating an idea of Bon Jovi as a band of brothers. He still does that with Tico and David, but if Tico didn't turn up for a show next year, would that mean the band of brothers is down to two, with new brothers added in? As for Richie, I still think he had every intention of coming back to the band. Probably within a year or two. In that sense, he played his hand poorly because here we are 10 years later and just last year it was him doing all the talking about going back to the band. |
My god Jon is ****ing nerve wrecking with how much PR bullshit he speaks. There has not been a single honest word out of that oils salesman's mouth for the last 20 years. It's amazing people here say he OPENED UP, SO BRAVE!
Guys wake up, he had no other choice than to address the issue and did it in the most controlled way possible while milking even this shit situation with the upcoming documentary. It's baffling the man can make money out of anything. Don't get your hopes up for the documentary, it's gonna be a bullshit hero script from top to bottom. And that new interview where he said his wife told him at the end of the tour. The guy is a calculating egomaniac, of course he ****ing knew. He knows for as long as he had that first throat shot in the 80s. He's a singer guys let's not be naïve here. He knows about his voice just as much as Richie knows he can't play for shit nowadays. Regarding Richie, I see no other scenario than Richie wants to get back for at least 5 years and Jon obviously either told him to go **** himself or gave him the worst contractual terms ever just to **** with him. Richie is laying down in his musical grave for the last 10 years and even sold his rights or whatever. Being in Bon Jovi is big money and our AA Guitarist knows it. What saddens me is that the good times are so far behind me now, those 2010 shows where we've all been criticizing Jon's voice for a decade but at least the shows were very acceptable. There weren't many trash albums out diluting the song pool so the setlists normally had many of the songs that nowadays would've been considered gems. I guess the only hope is for a decent all out tour to close shop in a blaze of ****ing glory. But bring Richie for the ride, if it's gonna be a shitshow, let's bring the shitfaced guitarist back. Sorry for the rant, I'm so out of the loop I just read about the surgery and wanted to get the real info in the only place I know where to find it. |

I don't think I have seen anyone say Jon is brave, but perhaps I am wrong. The general mood around his voice is at least we now know what the problem has been, and it is a genuine problem. It makes it easier to say "it is what it is" and then make a personal decision on whether you can enjoy the band with his current voice or not. |
Maybe the worst Wanted ever. How the hell he ever finished even this tour, let alone the 2022 one, is truly beyond me. |
