I really don't think his voice sounds that bad, yea maybe it's not as strong as 30 years ago but that's just life.

The man is in his 50's after all and for me he can still put on a good show for nearly 3 hours.

Obbie O'Brian

Hi everybody. I am completely new to this forum, even if I have been following this thread for a couple of weeks now...now I finally registered because I think this might be interesting for you. Yesterday I was at the concert in Prague. Before the show, waiting in the DC, Mr. Obbie O'Brian just wandered around, alone, nobody seemed to recognize him...so I addressed him, we shook hands and had a chat, a very nice guy. I of course asked about Richie and in a very opened way like "did he leave the band? you know we are worried" He said simply: no, he will be back. Quite interesting, isn't it ?

By the way, the gig was wonderful, they were really doing their best, despite the pouring rain...

Is that the one where Jon tried to pretend he didn't really know prices were that outrageous compared to other tours and he had no control over it? Even the Jon-can-do-no-wrong fans had to laugh at that one.

Yep thats the one. His response was rather disgusting, considering how expensive they are. I mean he brags how he runs this brand/corporation yet he doesn't know one of the most important financial elements of his company.

Schofield gave David Cameron a tough old question I remember too.

I don't think Jon expected anything like that- good on Schofield for asking it instead of the usual puff-piece questions.

It's usually, I run this organisation, it's in my hands, good/bad but when it came to that question Jon is, ummm really? I don't know about that?!?! In his mind, his probably thinking "You F@#kin Bastard!!" Richie is looking at him going; talk your way out of this one buddy!

Poor Jon, can't get through the crowds of women standing outside Matt's door...

He does have a point though. Hanging around the hotels is just embarrassing. No wonder Jon hates touring nowadays.

Solid Sambora 06-25-2013 11:52 PM

Wait, I want to change my joke to one about Jon getting pissed off that every hotel he goes to, Matt turns up.

Never stood outside a hotel, never would do it. But that people are showing you affection, it wouldn't kill you to say hi from the windows or anything. After 30 years he might be tired but it's the life he signed in for!

That will be good for the band as he was never a good PR (actually quite the opposite). And yes, I know he says he isn't a PR but sometimes he acts like one.

I also find it silly to blame people for not being natives. The problem is not that english isn't the mother language of every Bon Jovi fan, is that Matt's diplomacy is nonexistent.

Yeah but would a wave be enough though? I'm a great believer in stars treating their fans right, but the fans should know when to draw the line. If they can't go to the safety and comfort of their own homes between shows, they should at least be able to go to their hotel and be left in peace for a bit. It's different if its a random "holy shit, Famous Dude just walked in the foyer" kind of thing- you might go say hi, and Famous Dude would hopefully appreciate the genuine moment for you- but people purposely staking out your hotel? That's too much.

I actually appreciate Matt answering tweets although I don't follow him and don't check his site often. I don't consider him to be a PR person and don't expect him to be one. He and Phil are the only ones who are interacting with fans via Twitter.

Fans at concerts can't meet any of the main band members and if they for some reason want to meet Jon, it is arranged as an expensive event. However, fans can meet Matt, Obie and a few others at a concert and I think that is cool. I don't expect Obie or Matt to break any confidences with regard to the Richie situation to a fan that nabs them for a brief, private conversation.

Guys, I have a train to catch in a few hours and have yet to go to sleep, so I won't do the crazy work I did last time with Matt's tweets, but I've read them all and he's not referring to fans waiting outside their hotel, he's talking about people booking rooms at the same hotel of the band for multiple times (he said once is okay to him) and sitting at the bar with the same drink of members of the band, staying at the gym without working out and such.

Also, in between a MILLION tweets about this matter (with people misunderstanding him, hence the "threat" to close his account), he also tweeted about Richie:

Quote:

Blocking some of the "tweeters" who constantly whine and moan is what he should have done from the start. My patience wears thin quickly and in his position I probably would have ripped a new one on some folk. :D

I for one hate to see anyone chased off a blog, forum or twitter account due to basically bad manners and a toxic environment. However, I do think if this doesn't work for him, he needs to delete it, create another one and keep his private account private.

If they could just put a meet & greet in an affordable price and during this meet & greet sign some stuff of the fans, like their albums, vinyls, stickers etc & then take a few pictures with them, I don't think that this would happen at all. I mean stalking the band outside of their hotel is too much, indeed, as they want some privacy too. But anyway, you can do it once but everytime in a while it's a bit too much. Okay, they are our heroes, we want to meet them, this should be respected too. After all, they won't get killed or something if they go out there sign some stuff & take a picture with some fans.

But booking in the same hotel for a whole leg, wow! You must be rich :D

People will always try and meet the band doesn't matter if they do meet and greets or not.
Fans hanging out at hotels has been going on since forever its really not a big deal.

kenobi_on_a_prayer 06-26-2013 09:06 AM

I'm not sure I would want to go out of my way to try to meet the band. I'd probably freeze and not know what to say, and don't really need to find out if my idols are pricks.;)

Yeah, its not like their the first band its happened to, and I'm sure it's much less than in their heyday.
You can sort of slightly understand it overseas, as they are seldom over here for any great length and don't do any signings or fan meetings so for the people who want to meet them the options are either Concert venues, TV studios if doing promo or outside the hotel.

rainsong 06-26-2013 10:35 AM

In my mind though there is a big difference between waiting outside the bands hotel (which I'm personally not a fan of either but I get it), and stalking them around in the hotel. I think once they are inside, they should be allowed to be normal and not have to worry about fans lurking around corners etc...... Just saying.

You are right here and Matt is talking about the fans who go from hotel to hotel to hotel. He said it's not aimed at the ones who wait outside to catch a glimpse but the ones who follow them everywhere.

They had it worser back in the heyday and when they couldn't get out of the hotel at all and had to wear disguises wherever they went.

Here is a link to the band leaving Prague. Check out the man holding the little child. He gets Jon's autograph and Jon gives it to him but then he tries for the second time but Jon is about to give him an autograph but then notices that it's the same man and pushes/shoves him away. They say that Jon sees everything and he is good to recognize the guy. Obviously an autograph hunter.

Rolo just again to be on the safe side ND on his shirt stands for Notre Dame, don't want any misunderstanding that it's a secret message to Sambora.

Walkerboy 06-26-2013 10:52 AM

My take on that tweet is that fans were getting INSIDE the hotel and trying to find the band....
People hanging around outside the hotel in the hope of maybe seeing them has been happening for decades and is part and parcel of being famous.
Stalking them inside takes it to a whole new, and despicable, level.

Could seriously not be bothered hanging outside hotels. I agree they should be allowed to get on with their own business inside the hotel. I have been in the same bar as Jon before and for sure he knew we were fans they always 'know'. We didn't sit and stare though - my friends actually had to tell me he was there. By pure chance I ended up next to Jon and he said hi shook my hand and genuinely smiled at me. I would not have the nerve to go and bother him.

As a 16 year old though (long long time ago) we ran around the hotel car parks, back entrances and front entrances and it was fun.

I have heard stupid stories of people knocking on doors they have no business knocking on and being in gyms in full street clothes including heels obviously not there for a work out which just makes them look foolish.
