My CD arived yesterday. It was great to hear the album digitally remastered, and the b-sides have been as well by the sounds of it! I've already heard Tear It Down (original version) and the tracks that appear on Retro Active are are slightly different but still a good listen. The live stuff is great aswell. And the whole set come in a great little digipack. I hope they do this with some of their other albums.

I can't even find a copy in Southern California. Tower Records is going out of business so they aren't getting new stock in. Target didn't have it and Best Buy doesn't have it. I haven't checked Wal Mart and I'd like to avoid it if I can (but it looks like I'll be buying KISSology Vol. 1 from there since they have the bonus DVD that I want the most.)
Anyway, looking forward to hearing all of this remastered. I'm still waiting for the complaints of how some songs are "repeating" from Retroactive..or rather whether or not these complaints are still holding water after hearing the tracks now that the album is out. (I just want to gloat a bit.) So far, one person is validating what I was saying before. |
I struck out at Target, Best Buy and Circuit City. One place had it, but I'm not paying $27.99 for it.
|
If anyone can find it for less than 20 bucks let me know. I'm not paying 28 bucks for it.
Thanks. |
PYROMANIA kicks HYSTERIA's ass:onfire:
|
I'd love it if they did a deluxe edition of Pyromania! Although 7of the 10 tracks were remastered for the Best Of but I'd love to hear live tracks from that era. Wishful thinking would be Slang: Deluxe Edition.

I finally picked up my copy this week. I can't find who said it, but someone mentioned Animal (Extended Remix) is lacking the false ending. I'm finding that is true. I think whoever did the remastering ****ed up somehow. The length of the gap between the body of the song and the false ending was longer than it was on the album version. So maybe it was missed because of this. On one hand..I'm a bit annoyed as a purist. On the other hand...it was stupid to have that extra length of silence in the original release of this mix. I just doubt they consciously made that decision.

Just off the topic, I remember reading somewhere that Joe Elliott said in an interview that they mite release the FULL Don Valley 1993 concert on DVD. I'd much rather a more recent tour from Yeah! or X or even a 1996/1999 gig.

The setlist from X tour is excellent. Granted the album was horrible but they pull out shit from the entire first half of High N Dry, and all albums were represented (including OTTN with Wasted and Slang with the title track). I have a DVD boot of a 1999 show in Japan. Excellent. |

The writing was atrocious on Euphoria, All Night is worse than any boyband song ever, Demoltion Man is female catering rubbish, Back In Your Face just sounds unbelievably childish for a Lep song, Promises is musically good but lyrically laughable. Disintegrate is a sub standard instrumental, Goodbye, Its Only Love and Guilty are decent, possibly pretty good but we've heard them type of songs a million times before and while there is something cool about the melody and chorus of 21st Century Sha la la la Girl its still pretty stupid. Then we have the four killer tracks in Paper Sun, Day After Day, To Be Alive and Kings Of Oblivion. Worst album in their career by a long shot.

Opinions. THe four tracks you listed as the best are worst on the album. And the Leps have made worse albums, X or Adrenalize, anyone? Ice |

Adrenalize was a decent enough album, like I said about X the worst songs aren't anywhere near as bad as the tripe on Euphoria. Think you need to re-listen to Euphoria again and hear it for what it mostly is. |
If you say Adrenalize had decent lyrics, how do you justify "Lets get lets get lets get rocked!!!"? And Make Love Like A Man, how can you slag off All Night when this song is in existance. Alright, Euphoria doesn't display Def Leppards potential in terms of lyrics, but lets face it, neither did Hysteria, and although it's not my favourite album, it's still awesome.
You do have to take into account the background behind Euphoria. The band wanted to produce a Def Leppard album like a greatest hist record minus the actual "hits" if you will. If the lyrics sound dumb and stupid to you, thats probably cause they were MEANT to be. The reason I slag off Adrenalize is because of, again, the time it was released, 1992 when grundge had settled in and Leppard were still riding on the success of Hysteria pretty much. I know I was just a kid back then and didnt really pay attention to music, but even I can see the contrast between a song like Let's Get Rocked and Smells Like Teen Spirit. Euphoria was an album that did what it set out to do IMO, which was simply to produce fun, deep and meaningless, tounge-in-cheek pop/rock. OK I find it hard to excuse All Night, but it's still a very enjoyable record. |

Euphoria is great. X isn't. Ice |
I never said anything about Adrenalize having decent writing, said it was a decent album. What seperates Adrenalize from Euphoria is the tone and delivery of the songs, Euphoria could have been released by the Backstreet Boys the lyrics are that predictable/sappy and Joe doesn't help in his vocal delivery. X just has a lot better tracks overall, more consistent. I guess I am floored by some people's opinion's on Euphoria and Ice I am astounded you basically like the pop rock and ballads on Euphoria and X compaired to the rock songs which are better in every department IMO.
|
Nah, DL have never been a favorite of mine when it comes to lyrics, but hey, I don't care. I have to admit, when I forst heard Euphoria I couldn't help but be a bit put off because of them rehashinmg their hits and going back to their old sound. (Keep in mind that I listened to this record post bon jovi's crush where I was proud that the 80's bands I liked were making modern succesfull music while retaining the core of what they are).
But when I listen to it now, I just think what a stupid thought that was, when you take the album for what it is it's one of their best, and the songs ROCK live, is it rehash?? Well a lot of it is, but who the **** cares it rocks!!! It's DL how we know and love 'em. |
According to this looks like there will be deluxe editions of Pyromania and Adrenalize as well. Pyromania era b-sides were just album tracks so I don´t know what will be on the second disc (if they even do it the same way as they did with Hysteria) but hopefully they add all the b-sides from Adrenalize era, although I´m missing only few songs, but it would be nice have them all on one disc.
|
I've been waiting for the Pyromania deluxe edition since they did Hysteria. I too, wonder what the second disc will have. The only reason I give a shit at all about the Adrenalize edition are the B sides. I'd rather they release High n Dry. That and Pyromania are sorely in need of remastering.
|
It's been mentioned on DefLeppard.com
https://web.archive.org/web/20090306...pard.com/news/ No release dates, no tracklists or any real details as of yet, but you can guess it'll be near enough similar to the Hysteria Deluxe Edition. With Pyro', we may get a live album or something on the 2nd disc or, dare I say it, unheard demos not even the diest hardest fan would even know of. Adrenalize, however, alot of it's b-sides were re-recorded/tweaked for Retro Active so there's probably not gona be anything new there. Nice bit of news though. These remasters are WAY overdue IMO. Wishful thinking would be Slang: Deluxe Edition. :D |
High 'N' Dry and Pyromania are two of my all time favourite albums so this is gonna rock :D
And hopefully they'll master it a little bit louder because damn those two records are quiet. |
