Jon sounds way too young on 4th of July for it to be recorded in 2002-2003. I'm pretty sure Jon said it was written for KTF, although the production on it would suggest it being recorded in 1994-1995, in my opinion.

Miss 4th of July was written during the "grey period", as Jon often referred to it, in the summer of 1991. During one of the performances he stated it and it also makes sense since he said "I like the song better know 'cause the lyric doesn't hurt as much...".
Don't know when it was actually recorded but I think 1994/95 must've been the latest point judging from the tone of his voice.

My mistake,I haven't listened to Miss 4th of July for a long time and for some reason the vocals that remained in my head were the ones from 2004 Atlantic City and so I thought that it was recorded post 2000.

Anyway,a question about Billy. Isn't Billy a boys name? isn't the correct spelling of the name Billie for a girl?

Looking back over the posts about the dubious recording dates, there are a few songs I can't see any 'definite' guesses for, as definite as a guess can be really. I've put the suggested year by members of the board after the stated one, can anyone shed any more light on these? I know there were other songs that were disputed, but I can't work out these below.

This one is definitely 1994..it was going to the title track of the album (that became These Days) at one point.

Also 1994..Jon talks about the recording this track in an interview for GGDAWW.

Totally agree on that one. This one has 1994-Jon written all over it. During that period he seemed to be obsessed with the theme of train, station, running-off, breakdown of oneself etc. in his lyrics. It appears throughout this one, Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word (I still think it's from that period as well), Saturday Night (both demo and final version). The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that Soul Asylum's Runaway Train had a bigger influence on Jon than I had thought so far. It was reflected in his songwriting at that point.

So which ones are believed to be JBJ solo songs?

Also, does anyone have the Japan version that supposedly has a bonus disc? I've never seen it

The page on Wikipedia has a track listing, it's a collection of B sides etc that have all been released before.

I am sure the assumptions are definitely solo songs. Temptation differs from that which was a B Side from Crush, so perhaps one was a solo and the other changed during the Sex Sells sessions.

Someday Just Might Be Tonight was written in the same time frame, but is credited to Richie aswell, so perhaps it was reworked by both JBJ & RS during the Sex Sells sessions?

Yeah Someday Just might be tonight you can hear Richie pretty clearly singing. Generally my rule of thumb is if he's a co-writer it wasn't a solo track.

Temptation's redux just has Bobby's playing all over it, that vibrato end note at the end is pure Bobby Bandiera.

I don't think b-sides matter. A JBJ solo song could be included as a band bside.

I really wish they were stricter with that stuff.

From around 2:58 mark I Just Want To Be Your Man sounds exactly like Fields of Fire to me,and not only just then,during the song there are many similarities (at least to my ears) with Fields of Fire.
So I guess the studio version from Fields of Fire that we know was indeed recorded in 1994.
