One year after, Jon shall and MUST have realised that Shine and Luv Can are great songs, specially the 1st one for the phonograph industry and the 2nd to bring back the fans. If I was him I'd bet my last buck for 2020 on these songs. About the tour, they could do a pun like "2020 Moved On Tour". That'd be fun. |
Tbf the Luv Can Tour might actually fit the vibe they're going for coming out of the pandemic. Who knows?

I'd also like to hear the pre-BOR version "The Right To Walk Away".
|
"Summer's Gone" is on the Beach Boy's 2012 album That's Why God Made The Radio. It's actually my least favourite track on the album and would be a waste of space on the box set.
I do however very much want to hear Hurricane Butterfly. Also, would love a version of Burn With Me with much better vocals (Jon sounds like a strangled cat in the available version). Also, Let It Rain is a 90's demo? I have obviously missed something. |
Quote:
BTW - Elvis in Vegas is a 94 demo from the CR/TD sessions. That would be high on my list of "must hear" tracks. |
Summer's Gone - as far as I remember - wasn't written by Jon, but he came in and contributed a verse and some lines.
So I doubt there's a recording of his in the vaults. Quote:

God every time I see the title "it only takes one to say goodbye" I'm excited :D About " I watched her walk away" yes, should be an outtake from the Bounce era. Hurricane Butterfly more probably is an outtake from THINFS. Crying for the band was too sad and according to them it hasn't left the notebook, even if there's a little possibility they've recorded it. There is also the song "Elvis in Vegas" that could be in the box set. Someone mentioned the song " Love to fall" feat Avicii, but according to Jon if I'm not wrong, he said that they haven't recorded it. |
Quote:
Avicii said that Jon wasn't too keen to finish recording the track. It probably only exists in a demo version, but the Bon Jovi camp is unlikely to own it. |

I can’t see songs given away to other artists being on the box set although would love Elvis in Vegas.
Meatloafs version is perfect for his opera rock but 1994s Jon would have sounded amazing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
“To coincide with what will be our 40th anniversary in 2023, we’re in the midst of archiving anything and everything we have, and much to my surprise, there’s probably 40 or 50 songs that we had no idea existed. We’re going through that all right now. And now that technology is such - whether it’s lyric books or photographs and video and film and things - I had no idea that I was such a hoarder, we have a lot. And to coincide with the 40th anniversary is going to be the be all end all box set.”

I dont believe any single word Jon Bon Jovi says.

Neither do I. When it actually comes to fruition, it's absolutely great. But Jon's called himself a "notorious liar" in the past, so I'd rather sit back and watch it unfold. Getting mega-hyped now just to bitch about us not getting what had been announced in two years ain't worth it. Already done that the shit Experience.

Given that alot of the content will be post 2000, I think this being the "be all, end all" is a bit of stretch but sure Jon, sure [emoji849]

Btw, do you think Richie will be featured on the recordings that he originally played on, or will Shanks overdub his guitar parts (god forbid if he does...)?

Exactly this. |
For as much as people complain about that idea, a lot of Burning Bridges was pretty well received here.

A lot of people don't know, but a lot of additional guitars from the 2004 box set were added by Bobby Bandiera. If it's songs from the last 10-12 years I don't care if Shanks is on guitar. He has some interesting solos like Fingerprints (although it remains to be seen if the original demo of that song, Richie did the same solo, and the re-recording we got was just Shanks replicating it). My problem would be with the older songs, if for example they include a song from the eighties or nineties, and Richie has a good guitar solo, it would bother me a lot if they removed it to add a guitar solo from Shanks or Phil. |

End of the day it's lunacy to compare what didn't get released to what got released because people thought it was bad. If Jon is such a bad A&R guy (a horse beat dead within an each of its life by now) we may get a bunch of good stuff here regardless of the era and players. Shanks can play and have his sound fit in well but most of what he's done that I've loved hasn't exactly made the final record. |
Just, please Bongiovi, do not mess with random Slippery tracks here on this 40th Anniversary thing...
Rather give us one complete "be all end all" Slippery When Wet box (do as Metallica did on their releases) with all the demos + working in progress, 5.1 (already out there) + decent pro-shot video of a complete concert. Along with marbles (online joke of Pink Floyd boxes), stickers, replica backstage passes + Secret Society newsletters. Thank you. |
I will be happy with anything they release, I'm easy to please, I just hope is something well done, good production, good artwork with a lot of interesting stuff for us to look at.
I bet it will have a lot of songs from 2000 to now, makes sense since the first box was 80s/90s/00s. Hope the SWW stuff that leaked I don't know how many years ago make to this box set, I have zero hopes for a special edition for SWW, if he wanted to do, he would have done already... And that's it, my greatest fear is production, actually. Hope they leave to Obie and Obie alone, besides some weird stuffs like the key change in Last Chance Train and whatever happened to Starting All Over Again, I love what he did on the first box set |
it won't surprise me if they will release another greatest hits album instead. Including Livin on a Prayer, It's my life, Bad name etc... and 2 new songs maybe. because they could earn some good money on it. The box set will be unprofitable for Jony's and Matt's business mind.

The question is ... what will happen in 2022? a new album? an extended edition of 2020? an EP with new songs to promote the tour? |

I don't see another GH coming, The 2010 didn't do so hot and that was five years after their last hit. They've had nothing overly massive since Who Says and the last GH was padded with fan favourites just to fill it. I think it will make more money than the box set would, sure, but both will cost $$$ to market.
|
I can't really imagine them putting out another GH either (at least not in the near future). They haven't had any hits since the last one came out, so what would they even change about the tracklist?
I also don't think it would sell particularly well because everyone who's had an interest in a Bon Jovi GH in recent times probably already bought the last one (and people are definitely still buying that one these days since it's usually floating around somewhere on the rock album charts on iTunes), so they're not gonna spend their money on a new one with like 3 different tracks that weren't even hits. There's probably a bigger market for a new record (or the anniversary boxset) these days, especially in combination with a tour announcement. |
Quote:
2020 just proofed that when they can't combine it with ticket bundles, album sales were worse than we could have imagined. |
Yeah there's no market for ANY of these options. Each of them will require a marketing push. With spotify and streaming I can't see the demand greatest hits used to have. It'll attract a certain market of people that still use CDs though but....physical media is dying off unless it's hyper specific to an era or a box set.
