During the making of 2003's "St. Anger", a petition that some 1,500 fans signed subsequently was posted online calling for METALLICA to dump Rock, claiming he had too much influence on the band's sound.

"The criticism was hurtful for my kids, who read it and don't understand the circumstances," Rock told Reuters. "Sometimes, even with a great coach, a team keeps losing. You have to get new blood in there."

Although St Anger was number 1 on billboard, Metallica need another producer because they knew that another album with Bob Rock would be on the same wheel and they had already been there too long.

They would have been better off making Unbroken the official first single if they were going this route. It's working gangbusters but a really confusing start to the marketing campaign. I mean I guess it was more two in one. The record your vocals for Limitless AND the choir with Unbroken. I'm kinda torn haha.
