If you analyse it for what you guys said, of course you can dislik it if you focus on it that way, but flat as in no deep meaning I do not get...
I sometimes think that rating music takes away what music partly stands for |

But I totally get that people may find the song flat musically, too. |

I agree with you in that it's not flat in meaning, just in melody. The lyrics are pretty powerful and paint an emotional picture. |
For me, Jon's voice has always been the driving force behind all songs. Take that away and that's 90% of it.
It not that there are no bad songs in the 80s and 90s. There is no bad vocals from the 80s and 90s. These vocals on this current song were done in his home studio and you can tell they were not fully masted as they would be on a final album. And because of that, it's a fail for me Sent from my HTC6535LVW using Tapatalk |

Today, I was like: Oh, it is July and in a few days you are closer to 40 than to 30 and I cannot believe it is summer. My feeling for time is totally messed-up |

I just think it was a rushed job. His home studio may not be state of the art anymore, but certainly good enough to have all the equipment to record a clean vocal track for Shanks to work with. It simply sounds bad because there's no wall of sound in this track where you can disguise Jon by robotic vocals.

The literal lyrics remind me of Randy Newman in Family Guy. Just sing about what you see. How does everybody interpret the line "I'll never know what it's like, to walk a mile in his shoes?" Is this directly about George Floyd or a more general comment about the problems facing black people in America? If its the former I'd be quite disappointed in Jon given Floyd's criminal past. Criminal past or not it doesn't justify the actions by the police, that's more the angle Jon is taking in the song. |

Sure, Floyd had a criminal history but why is it that so many people of color face such differentent treatment to acquiring a job, access to education, access to proper housing and acquiring punishment compared to a white person? A white person in America is priviledged indeed. Even if they've got the same criminal history. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

Perhaps it is more general given the line after about not having to have the talk. That and the fact the verse before the first chorus does directly deal with Floyd, it would be weird to carry it on for one line after the chorus, if that makes sense? Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk |

Further on, I fail to see how socialism has something to do this with. But for arguments sake, considering you think of yourself as well educated I'd love to see you explain something for once without trying to point to others to draw away the evidence from your own incompetence. Where is this charge substantiated? I mean the rape part? I see the charge for robbery in 2007 and the statement on the gun held to her stomach but nothing else. Also, I'm amazed that a victim of obvious police brutality winds up being the one demonized. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not saying it's justified. The guy was a dirty cop and deserves what he gets!!! Absolutely!!! But I'll leave you with this Regan quote. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions" Sent from my SM-A015V using Tapatalk |

Show me where the court records show there was a pregnant woman or rape. The charge doesn't show either. That was only in bullshit memes.
