Agreed. He grips that mic stand like his life depends on it.

Like he did on Stern today. Looks like he's in pain.

Comments on these two photos posted on sternshow's Instagram are mostly pretty harsh.

I thought Runaway was ok, THINFS too. The rest were poor. I've no idea how he will manage a 2hr plus set of older songs.

Jon can't sing anymore.

That's a fact. What's the point to try to sing songs he can't? It's because of the money? Come on, I feel the pain in his voice and his face.

I know what a bad nasal structure can do to your voice. Maybe that's it. Who knows? nasal cartilage tend to get weaker with age and then it can partially block the air.

He really seems out of breath since Crush.

Maybe I just want it so bad - but I'm hearing Jon sound better. Definitely better than late in the tour 2013. I think he over did it. 2015 was better but not on form. I don't expect to hear 1980's Jon - that is forever gone but he seems to be adjusting the music to his vocal ability now. He doesn't have his master harmonizer, no matter what, Richie was his vocal team mate and no one else can fill that void. He's older, he was a smoker, he fights allergies, if I remember that being a problem on tour, so I'm thinking he's improved.

Jon's voice isn't in great physical condition, but I do think the psychological factor plays a part too. For instance, the way he "braces himself" can cause things to tighten up and become even harder (and more painful) to sing.

But Jon proved on the LH tour that he could get back to sounding pretty good, so it sucks that his voice has declined again since then.

Pretty good? I would say that Jon reached his vocal hight of the entire 2000s (maybe with the exception of 2000-2001) during the Europe leg of 2008. For the first time in many years I really felt confident that he could belt out almost any track in the catalouge.
2010-2011 were also great, but not really up to the amazing 2008-level.

Jon's voice on the howard stern show is the WORST i've ever heard Jon... He is pinching the high notes with everything he's got to get through bad medicine.. It was almost horrible.. He did MUCH better on IML and THINFS for obvious reasons... but wow was the older stuff bad.. I don't think it's anxiety or him "trying to hard", this man has been singing for 40 years, he knows what he's doing, he knows what works and what doesn't work..
Sadly, and I hate to say it, but his voice is shot.. be thankful it lasted this long lol.. We'll see major changes in the way he sings from now on just so he can get through a show/tour.

The band sounds great though!

Although I agree, it was also 6am...

I hope he isn't paying the coach too much money.

Does Jon still smoke? I know he used to then I read he had quit, but he was smoking in the New Year's Eve film he was in. Smoking is really hard on the voice. I never could understand why so many singers smoke?
