That's a good idea, actually I was thinking for something similar the last days!
This will benefit the other threads with not getting off-topic. EDIT: Is it possible to have a nested replies here in JoviTalk? Like Reddit... Or rating system for every reply? It would be fun. Let me start with my random thoughts of today: It bothers me that one of my favourite songs, Rosie, has too many similarities with this song, which is awesome, too: |
I think it's a good idea to combine 4 of the threads into one etiquette thread, especially since some of them are older.
I think the philanthropy and talent show threads are still relevant though because they are consistently ongoing and it's easier to keep track of those particular subjects in one thread than making a new thread every time something new comes up. The album an video threads--I'm not sure about them. They're only stuck because they mean something to people, but there hasn't been any activity in ages. We'll discuss this in the moderating forum for sure. |
I absolutely agree that there's too many stickys in the General section. But we have an NBJ section where we can talk about "anything" else.
P.S. A JoviTalker very recently earned my respect by a posting a thread about a musician I don't like in NBJ rather than Other Bands, LOL! |

Isn't that what "JoviChat" is for? Quick and random comments that might not warrant and entire thread.

Trying a single "Board Etiquette" Sticky to see how it looks. The redirects of the original threads will expire in a couple of hours.
If for some odd reason it doesn't work, it can be changed back. If we can use a thread like this to post just anything, then daily news blurbs could wind up here and the philanthropy stuff could wind up in a thread like this without being stuck too. But I still think the Talent Show thread should be stuck because there are so many talent shows all over the world and you never know when a Bon Jovi song is going to pop up. Speaking of anything... I heard Wanted on the way home from work today. :) |

I've been listening to a lot of older bootlegs lately and it's interesting to hear Jon make comments about the future. During one of the KTF concerts, he said that he'll still be rockin 30 years from now... He's got about 6 /7 years left to reach that goal.. Man, does time move fast!!!
And bty, 1988 / 1989 has some of the best bootlegs. In terms of both band quality and sound quality. 93' is a close second. |
I think it's a great ideea! I sometimes want to post something random that is band related but I don't want to create another topic just for a small thing like that.

Yesterday was Cher's birthday and they did a Deep Dive into her music on Entertainment Weekly Radio. They mentioned the album that was produced by David Geffen, Jon, Desmond Child, and Richie (the order they listed them in) and said that really gave that album some real rock credibility. They also mentioned Jon, Richie, and Desmond writing for her, but they did not mention the band playing on the album. Of course they mentioned that she dated Richie but they said the most famous younger man she dated was Rob Camilletti. Really? He's more famous than Richie? On THIS planet?
|
I've been waiting on Cher to have Richie's baby since 1992. The tabloid in which I read about it wouldn't have printed it if weren't true. She's a bit overdue at this point, however -- unless she's waiting for the arrival of three wise men from the east...

Manila Standard (now The Standard) article on the band's most recent show here. Article dated 29 April 1995. http://entertainment.inquirer.net/14...cert-promotion An interview with the CEO of a local concert promoter. Included is a retelling of the riot on the second show on 30 September 1993 after torrential rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon forced the band to cut the show (only after the 8th song according to an anecdotal account). |

No big whoop, though -- Heather Locklear can certainly say something similar! |
I had a dream last night that I was at a BJ show from 96 I think, judging by Jon's hair, and they performed I Want You for the very first time...well Jon really did perform an acoustic version in 93 but the lyrics were all messed up.
The performance was actually pretty great and I couldn't believe that I was so lucky to see them perform that song live |
Hi, I have a quick question for the diehards in here! Check this link about the CrossRoad album:
http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/08_C...oad/Album.html In the notes section we read "Hugh McDonald – bass on all tracks but In & Out Of Love and Blaze Of Glory". This is an "best of" album, including some already released songs. This statement (assuming it's true since the page creator copied it from the bootleg) is odd... If you check the notes for Slippery or NJ or others, there is no Hugh involved. How is this possible? Did they re-recorded the bass parts for Crossroad? If yes, why? Maybe because of the loyalties they should give to Alec? Or is there another explanation? EDIT: what a great archive, I hope the creator uploads detailed info for the newer albums, too! |
My opinion, Alec was in the creative process with his instrument, but it was not always in tune with what Jon or the producer needed. Hugh here to remake tracks.
I think there is something of Alec on each album, and may be the reason still give credit. I think Hugh made them raise the level of their songs, but the work of Alec, somehow, albeit to a lesser extent, is on the recording or part of the process. |
I don't hear any difference in the bass tracks between Crossroad and the original, I don't think they were re-recorded. Hugh has confirmed he played on Prayer, etc, so why would they re-record what he already played on?

Yep, Hugh had confirmed (I think at least twice) that he had played on all Bon Jovi albums with exception of Fahrenheit. The first time was in an interview on his homepage way back (not available there anymore) and the second time was just a few years ago if I'm not mistaken.
Back in the day I think Alec was more needed for "live factor". If you listen to him playing the intro of KTF on that tour or his playing during the rehearsal shows for "An Evening With..." it becomes obvious that he could get really sloppy at times. |

Do you see the subtle similarities between this song and We Don't Run, too? They have different melodies and different chord progression but the drums, the existence of the oh oh's, the guitar work partially, the verse structure have something in common....

Had a family BBQ the other day of all ages and threw on the live audio from TLFR just to see and it was a huge hit... it was kept at a moderate volume and really worked the mood... it was familiar music but not overwhelming. Can't believe that was 13 years ago already...

Hey, I found my old Slippery When Wet cassette. It's the one I bought in 1986. It was inside the tape player of an old radio in an old box full of junk. Can you believe that shit? I was 16 when I bought that tape. I also found my Mike Tramp Bootleg Series Box set. The 7 CD one with all of the demos you can't find on youtube. Crazy, crazy stuff.
Anyway. I never really post here. I just read the forum. Also, hey, my Reckless Love cds came yesterday. Good band... |

Even back in the day, I was smart enough to make copies so I wouldn't wear out the originals... I even repurchase the entire collection though one of those CD purchase places (BMG Music / Columbia House) to have a copy of everything for my car... I spent tons of money on this band, especially on the imports to get the bonus tracks... Now, I have 100% of my collection on a 64G SD Card... It's all organized in folders (I actually have 2, one for a backup and the other is in my phone - plus it's all on my pc too... I'll eventually upload it all to a cloud so I could share it with all) So yeah, I have this Mini Bon Jovi museum sitting in my house and there is never a need to take anything from it because it's all on a chip the size of my pinky nail... I proudly wore out my original cassette tape of New Jersey. Remember when cassette tapes were clear back then except for a bit of a colored strip? I played mine so much the colored strip wore through where the wheels were and you could even hear the b-side bleeding through on the a-side on certain songs. I would walk for hours a day listening to that tape over and over and over. That copy of New Jersey belongs in a museum for surviving such abuse!

Since this IS the anything thread... it's often cited that Bon Jovi succesfully became more than an 80s band. However, are there any fans of the band that got into the band from a different angle? Say it's 1994, you're a fan of Soul Asylum, and you like Saturday Night. Are these people still around?
I'd say no. Reckless Love were just mentioned. These guys have an 80s sound going. Bon Jovi don't anymore. However, many fans of the 80s sound are still around, because this is the era that defined the band. I don't see fans of later sound incarnations still being around, but maybe I'm wrong? |

I'm still here and I knew "of" them only vaguely in the 80s and 90s because I was totally absorbed in church music at the time. My dad watched a lot of CMT, so I actually got into Bon Jovi as a result of the WSYCGH video and the CMT Crossroads event they did with Sugarland. I bought HAND, then I backtracked to their earlier stuff to catch up, loved Lost Highway from Day One, and haven't really been disappointed by anything they released before or since, including the solo projects from Richie, David, and Jon. I love this band!! :D |
Well it's not like they changed their sound since the Lost Highway era.

But I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of eggs in China anyway. I just mentioned LH because it was their first release after I got interested in the band. I assume it would still qualify as one of the "later sound incarnations". Or maybe I misunderstood your questions. You asked if there are any fans that got into the band from a different angle? I became aware of them through their association with Sugarland. You asked if these people are still around? Yes. You said you don't see fans of later sound incarnations still being around. I said I started with WSYCGH and I haven't really been disappointed by anything they released before or since, which I think qualifies me as a fan of their later sound incarnations. In other words, I like everything from Runaway right straight through Burning Bridges. And I'm still still here. :D Am I still missing your point? |

But you could say I'm more a fan of the "later sound incarnations", since I for example don't really appreciate the first two albums and half of Slippery. New Jersey onwards is near perfect, with some fillers here and there (most of them on Crush for me). |
Always hooked me in, in '94 which led me to getting Crossroads on tape, then These Days when it came out and after being obsessed with that, it was time to get the complete back catalogue.
I had a vague recollection of what the songs were on Crossroad, but not too much so even though I became fans of the 80s songs in time, it wasn't what brought me in (due to my age, I was 13 when Always came out). The new stuff still does it for me, it's not comparable to their heyday but it's still enjoyable enough and I'm sure a lot of people could take a few songs from each album regardless of whether they are an 80s/90s/00s joiner- but those who were there at the time of the 80s are the ones who hark back to that period the most as that was when they were superstars. |
