Richie fans made a tribute song and it's cool!

The winner of Richie's Every Road contest wrote a tribute song and asked other contestants from all over the world to play it and film themselves and he's just posted the video. No doubt Richie will love it! He wrote "Mr. Bluesman" to pay tribute to his guitar hero Eric Clapton and now some of his fans do the same thing for him (with errr... less talent), ain't that cool?!

F*ck me this is so bad I will have nightmares from this. And the guys from Bounce are part of this?!? Surely they have better things to do....

Old Joysey 12-20-2014 11:56 PM

 Oh c'mon! I'm sure they did their best (oops! I'm being more wicked than you!!!). That's why cover bands are just cover bands and hobby musicians only hobby musicians. It was a work of love, L.O.V.E. and that's all that counts!

Rdkopper 12-21-2014 05:58 AM

Now I've seen it all. This is so corny lyrically that I'm almost embarrassed to be lumped in as a Richie fan.

sambos apprentice 12-21-2014 06:43 PM

Why write a tribute song for anyone?

Best way to pay tribute to your hero is to write great songs using what they taught you- this song sucks!

It's not any worse than half of what's on Aftermath, so looks like they indeed try to write something similar to what Richie's been teaching them lately.

I tried to listen to it again and I can't. Someone needs to post the lyrics

What a strange question!!! It's a common thing that musicians do for each other to show their respect and admiration, to thank their favorite musos for the good music and times, for inspiration, hope, strength and the likes (unless of course if you have an ego bigger than the whole universe and think that your genius and your genius alone made you what you are!).

Richie paid tribute to Clapton as you may know:
http://www.whereseric.com/the-vault/...t-eric-clapton

Another example: Dylan, Harrison, Lynne and Petty as The Traveling Wilburys paid tribute to (or made fun of?) Springsteen with "Tweeter and The Monkey Man" using Springsteen's song titles and themes
http://www.ask.com/wiki/Tweeter_and_...apn&ap=ask.com

Richie fans used exactly the same formula but the result is ... errr... what it is!!!

No "Fuuuunky tomato... Fuuuunky tomato... Fuuuunky tomato... all night long" here and that's what's missing. That and calling the song "Cactus". It would have been so much better that way! :p

If you have a YT account, ask the guy the lyrics.

Paying tribute is one thing but writing lyrics saying you will "Follow" someone is obsessive.

Old Joysey 12-22-2014 03:10 AM

"richie's a lava of life!"? Are you sure of those words? I think he sings: "(you're) ah helluvah liar!"... but I could be wrong...
And also "Hard times cut like a knife but you're the King of Swords" referring to Richie's recent badass pic with the big knife. But then again I could be wrong...

Now, seriously, am I the only one who noticed that Valentin went as far as dressing up like Richie in Sidney? Ain't that dedication?! :p

On Richie's FB page:

Quote:

Fans created this tribute to Richie and uploaded it to YouTube. Just incredible talent and devotion.

Richie said it best on Twitter in his Thank You:

@TheRealSambora: I wanna from the bottom of my heart thank Zdravko Valentin and all the guys for my song. My warm feelings are beyond my words....RS

@TheRealSambora: I love you guys. It's people like you that keep me wanting to continue and get better and better....love and respect...RS

They say love is blind, I say love is deaf. A female fan posted this:
Quote:

This is beautiful! Congrats guys! Richie should play it, this song would sound great in his voice!

Calm down. We are Bon Jovi's fan, have worst and most embarrassing songs.

MrIks from Finland 12-26-2014 06:47 PM

Wow! That is one tough piece of horse shit! And Richie said the people who made it make Richie try harder and harder. If this tells anything about the taste of music of Richie's fans, Richie can stop trying. This bunch of losers will lick his butthole anyways.

Old Joysey 12-27-2014 03:23 PM

That's not what Richie (or his staff) wrote...
And don't assume that Richie's fans are all the same and have the same musical tastes.
It's a "thank you song" from a bunch of fans, not a would-be Top 40 hit or anything, it's funny and it shows their dedication, so take it for what it is.
Now, as John L. sang: "so this is Xmas... and what have you done?"

It's not about that. Is not about composition or writting of song. It's the message of love than make the fans to him. That simple.

My problem with this is that "to continue and get better and better" (1) is not synonymous with "to try harder and harder" (2). I quit teaching languages and literature years ago and I'm not here to give lessons anyway but, to put it in a nutshell I'll just say that (1) roughly means, "I'm good already but I can get better because no matter how good you are you can always get better" (= positive thinking and humility) whereas (2) implies, "I know I suck but if I try hard enough I might be good someday" (inferiority complex).

No, I absolutely don't care about you, it was a rhetorical question.
And if you're so proud of what you've done, why don't you upload it and market it?

Let me put it this way one last time in case you haven't bothered to read the explanation underneath the YT vid: this thread is about a bunch of fans living in different countries who got in touch through Richie's cover song contest. Valentin won Richie's 2 electric guitars + a couple of other things and a trip to NYC to meet the cool cat in the flesh. Then he decided to do something to thank Richie, he chose to write a song and perform it with some of the other contestants via the internet, they never met and played together in the same room.

As I said before and as rolo_tomachi said too, it's not about songwriting and singing, it's a message of love from some fans to their idol, why can't you understand? They're not a tribute band, they're not trying to make a living out of it (the Bounce guys ARE a German tribute band though), it's obviously a selfless piece of work, that's all.

PS: one of the lead gtr players is one of the Italian guys who organized the fans choregraphy in Udine and Milan. They spent an awful amount of time and money to do so, if that is not dedication, then what is???

Ok, I don't know where to start. Lot of your writing has nothing to do with what I've written.

First of all, who said I'm particularly proud of what I've done or that I want to market my music? You were the one who asked about what I've done (rhetoric or not).

Second of all, I knew very well about Richies competition and the guy who made the video was the winner of it.

Third of all, I know it's a tribute and a message of love from the fans but it is still IN MY OPINION cheezy, tacky and embarassing as hell. I don't care who made it, it doesn't change my opinion about the content of the video.

And last, what the hell has it to do with me what you wrote: "one of the lead gtr players is one of the Italian guys who organized the fans choregraphy in Udine and Milan. They spent an awful amount of time and money to do so, if that is not dedication, then what is???"

I haven't said anything about anybody's dedications. I don't care if the video was made by Ava Sambora, Richie himself or Paul Mccartney, it's hidious.

So if you don't have anything else to do than argue, at least have some point and don't put words in my mouth.

Here's a good the Beatles tribute song written by a fan. This one sounds like it could have been written by adults and the Sambora tribute sounds like it was written by 12 years old girl.

But hey, that it is just my opinion, in case you want to teach me again.

It's just disrespectful and you have not understood Richie's words. So you sound hostile and a little stupid. We all know that the song is cheesy as hell (including the thoughts of Richie) we all know that is not very good, but is made from the heart, in good faith. The Beatles fan will have more talent, but Richie's fans have the same love for his idol. Do not be so hard ****.

You're really a funny guy! (<==sarcasm) YOU put words in my mouth (and mind) and aggressed me with your:
"Which means exactly that he wants to try harder and harder... And you know it. What is your problem with this?"
that's why I replied to you. Because no, that's NOT what I know, stop thinking and writing that you know what I and other people think, it's arrogant and stupid. Are you a kid or an adult?

Now here's my last comment about it all because I'm obviously wasting my time:
- it's NOT about you and this thread is NOT about you either
- you really need to check the words "rhetorical question", "in case (you haven't bothered to...)" and "PS" in a dictionary
- you're perfectly entitled to express your opinion as anyone else over here but you could do so without insulting people and being aggressive and, most of all, without changing other people's words/comments, which is the main reason for my posting. Is it too much to ask for?
But since you refuse to understand and call my trying to right a wrong "arguing"... Peace, brother and have a nice day!

EDIT: gimme 5, rolo_tomachi! We're saying the same thing but you were faster!

Was that an answer to my question? If the dedication has nothing to do with me, then why are writing about it to me as if I had said something about it? If you make up stuff and throw it at me, then it's about me.

You are the one who is putting words in my mouth and writing about stuff that has nothing to do with my writings.

If the fact that I was saying that "try to get better and better" and "try harder and harder" meant the same is unacceptable for you, then I'm truly sorry

I understand that you don't like the quality of their tribute. That's an opinion and needs no justification as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure, though, why you would think this video could say anything at all about the musical tastes of Richie's fans. *shrug*

IMO, the video wasn't done to achieve any awards. In a world where far too many people don't appreciate anything, and the few who do often can't be bothered to express it, this was an effort to say 'Thanks'. I can respect it for that, if nothing else.

It's your closing statement that I find offensive on so many levels I can't even begin to number them. It's not clear if "this bunch of losers" refers to the people who did the video, to the fans whose taste you think may be assumed by it, or to Richie fans in general, but it doesn't matter. At least one Richie fan has enough taste to know that your final comment, besides being uncalled for, had none.

Yeah, I don't get that either. These guys are passionate about what they love and showed it by creating something new. Now I don't understand why they're passionate about it, why they still love it, and think the song is mediocre at best, but I wouldn't call them losers for simply doing such a thing. If anything, there's more passion and love involved in that 5 minute video than there is in the last few records of Bon Jovi.

There may be passion, but it doesn't mean it's good.

I like the idea- Christ, every song I write is homage to my idols but I just don't think they've executed things well
