I also thought about that, having Eric Clapton in mind.

Would have made more sense and been a better suit for him, but any Eric Clapton song would have gone completely over the audience's head.

Like this show as in this seasons or performers?

Here in the US it's a mix of celebrities hat don't sing and professional singers. Sometimes it's someone current, sometimes it's someone people forgot about. You can tell pretty quickly on if it's an athlete that doesn't sing or someone that has spent time on a stage.

I also don't agree that they're not signing live. There's no reason to get a celebrity in a suit to mime and dance to a pre-recorded track they recorded on an episode they don't get revealed if they didn't have to. The way Richie is dancing tells us all it's him in there. At least in the north american version when they get revealed you see a mic set up. Obviously the one in the costume's hands are a prop.

I also think that they sing live. Surely they doctor the vocals a little before they air the show but when you compare the hallelujah version from the church to the version of the show I even think his vocals in the church version sound better (when you discount that stupid guitar effect)

I watched the show in full this week and I only just realised that the person revealed then has to sing the song without the mask on, and they were clearly not miming, so I do now agree that they are singing live. I thought Richie's vocals sounded quite live this week.

I'm with you! Nowadays with auto-tune there are still enough possibilities to doctor on the vocals even in a live setting.
In the German version over here you can clearly tell that the celebs are singing live under the costume.
And considering Richie's performances: In every song I have seen so far, there were always some parts in which he sang slightly off the beat, in which he sang his parts slightly off-time. That's something he usually does in a live setting but not on record.

True, I think there is for sure vocal doctoring, there has to be. Some of the notes Richie hit in Halleluiah were.....suspect.

Last week he stole it with Hallelujah but I wasn't a fan of this weeks perfomance. I love the song, but it doesn't suit Richie.

agree with that.

I think...

knitting is Claire Richards from Steps
Rhino is Charlie Simpson from Busted/Fightstar

Apologies if this has been posted already but a friend sent me this article and I thought some of you might find it interesting. It's from a year ago and is specifically about the American productions of Masked Singer; but it offers some interesting notes about what the contestants have to agree to. Happy reading!

Richie sang today and he's still on the game! Only 5 left in the show.

The song was "Go your own way" by fleetwood mac.

Stars get to choose their own costumes.
There's a set of pre-selected costumes that the celebs pick from and then are allowed to tweak them to their liking. Host Nick Cannon told PEOPLE, "Usually their costumes are a clue to who they actually are."

If there were still doubts about whether it was Richie or not, the choice and taste with the wardrobemakes it even more obvious. Haha!

Stars can choose which songs they'd like to perform.
Producers work with the contestants to choose songs that not only suit their voice, but also fit that week's theme. From Vegas Night to Muppet Night, the show likes to get creative.

I think the songs chosen by Richie (or whoever) hasn't been terrible actually, and I think it's because they have this team of people who are honest and won't be shy about telling Richie that his version of Don't Look Back In Anger not work.

Stars can only work with their designated teams.
According to host Nick Cannon, the contestants are each assigned choreographers, voice coaches and production to help them create unforgettable performances. But with security being of the utmost importance, performers can only work with the people assigned to their team.

This is the most interesting point, maybe Richie is learning some more focused singing thanks to this show.
