They really don't do well in the States. I think that is why they were on a double bill with Bryan Adams last year. I know they do a lot of small State Fair type venues and they draw some fans but no where near what they did in their heyday. For example they performed at Turningstone Casino in Verona, NY and I think the capacity there is around 5,500 and they could not sell that out alone which is really pretty sad. I think they sold like 3,000 or so.

If you go on the DL site they actually talk alot about Bon Jovi and how they wish DL could be performing in the places BJ is now and draw those kind of numbers. Some DL fans want them to tour with BJ but we all know that is never going to happen nor do I want it to.Number 1 Jon would never allow it, it would be deemed as a nostalgia tour and I for one don't want those two bands on tour together.

They are still a pretty good live band. Not GREAT but solid. Joe's voice hasn't held up as well as I would have liked but I would still go see them again because I had a great time at their concert and they just have too many good songs.

aph01 02-09-2006 11:45 PM

Cheers lizz. Iv yet to see them live, im eagerly awaiting that day!

I think that would be very cool.

Dave 1986 02-10-2006 12:27 AM

I'm sure they could at least be the supporting act for Bon Jovi, so as not to cause people to think Bon Jovi are a nostalgia act.

Spikeout 02-10-2006 12:43 AM

For me their my joint favourite with Bon Jovi, also they have 5 world class albums, Slang, Hysteria, Pyromania, Retro Active and High N Dry. Seen them back in the X Tour (2002) and Joe's voice was great but at Live 8 it sounded pretty strained but I'm hopefull they will put on a hell of a show if they tour the UK this year again.

They were massive in the 80's and are the only band to have two albums go diamond in the US (sell 10m and over) in that period - Pyromania 10m and Hysteria 13m. They done well enough in the early to mid 90's as well with Adrenalize selling 3m in 93 and Vault (greatest hits) selling 4m after being released in 95. Since then they have done poor with none of their albums even reaching platnium in the US (Slang, Euphoria and X) and Slang is one of the best albums I've ever heard, it never really got a chance because it was a such a drastic change from Def Lep's normal sound. Euphoria and X have been mixed bags some awesome stuff on them and some absolute crap.

I would love Def Lep to tour with Bon Jovi cause they deserve the exposure Jovi can give them in Europe and most of the world for that matter. As long as the bands both had albums they were touring I think it would be awesome. People on the Def Lep site that went to see their New Jersey show on the X Tour said Jon and Richie came out and performed with them for a few songs.

I'm not so sure of Jon and Richie jammed with them... they did go to the show to watch and this much was confirmed.

Trivia: do you know that the title of their last 3 studio albums spells something interesting?

He/She definately said Jon and Richie came out and the crowd went mad and if I can remember correctly performed with them one or two songs. Onto the trivia question though.......Slang Euphoria X hehe

That is what a lot of people on the DL board say too. That if they toured with Bon Jovi they would get the chance to play to huge crowds and sold out venues every night. But at the same time a lot of those same people also feel that because of DL's glory run in the 80's that they are too big to open for BJ. In a way I can understand that. The DL fans are diehards there and they know that their band is better than an opening act. Plus it is kind of an ego thing... they probably feel they shouldn't have to open but in reality their audience is a lot smaller now than it was in the 80's. It's too bad really.

UKjovi 02-11-2006 11:03 AM

Yeah but if they put their ego away they could make alot of money plus bring themselves back into the lime light

SamboraQueen21 02-11-2006 04:07 PM

Well you know how they do their famous closing at every show "Don't forget us and we won't forget you"? It seems alot of fans have kind of forgotten them. Like I said it's too bad because they have so many really great songs that never get old.

Yeah even following what they've been up to, this is massive surprise release.

I was thinking recently it’s been several years now since their last album and half-assumed that they were unlikely to make more after that. The new single is ok for me, nothing special. But I’m sure the rest of the album will have at least some songs that I’ll really like. The last 2 albums, while being fairly average IMO, had at least one song each that I considered amongst their best (Go, Tomorrow, Dangerous) so hopefully this new album will at least have that.

Thinny 03-17-2022 05:38 PM

I really like the track. Very 70's British Glam Rock sounding. Which i guess is to be expected, as the album title is from a T-Rex song!

I really liked the last album but at 14 songs and 15 songs on this one....not everything hits with me. I think they could have taken the best 10 or 12 on Def Leppard and made a killer album.

Kick isn't doing much for me but I like that it wasn't just a rehash of Pour Some Sugar on Me like Let's Go was.

Def Leppard (2015) was decent but only a few songs really jumped out at me, like “Dangerous” and “Let’s Go”. I think you’re right, maybe if it was cut down to 10-12 songs it would have been a more solid album. And I am glad that “Kick” is at least not another “PSSoM” clone like “Let’s Go” and “Undefeated”, even though I liked both of those.

I thought Let's Go was dreadful, it was a very poor Sugar clone, but to me it was like One Direction trying to do Def Leppard. It had a horrible sickly sweet pop feel about it. Can't stand it. Kick has much more balls!

On the last album I preferred stuff like Battle Of My Own and Wings Of An Angel. I found the majority of it hard work.

Yeah that's fair. There are songs I LOVE (Sea of Love, Battle of My Own, Wings of An Angel, Blind Faith) and a whole lot of songs that are.....FINE I guess? Just a lotta fat on these albums.

Dave 1986 03-19-2022 02:05 AM

Deluxe Edition comes with 2 bonus tracks, basically alternate versions albums tracks;

“Goodbye For Good This Time (Avant-garde Mix)”
“Lifeless (Joe Only version)”

Spotify lists the single as written by David Basset and Phil Collen. I knew it was Phil song, it had him all over it.

David Basset has apparently co-wrote a lot of Shinedown's singles, and also with Halestorm, Daughtry etc...

Thinny 03-20-2022 12:43 AM

Actually iTunes has full song credits

Take What You Want (Savage / Elliott)
Kick (David Bassett / Collen)
Fire It Up (Collen / Sam Hollander)
This Guitar [feat. Alison Krauss] (Collen / CJ Vanston)
SOS Emergency (Collen / Elliott)
Liquid Dust (Collen)
U Rok Mi (Collen)
Goodbye For Good This Time (Elliott)
All We Need (Collen / Elliott)
Open Your Eyes (Collen / Elliott)
Gimme A Kiss (Collen / Elliott)
Angels (Can’t Help You Now) (Elliott)
Lifeless [feat. Alison Krauss] (Collen / Elliott)
Unbreakable (Elliott)
From Here To Eternity (Savage)

This is exciting news!!!

I like Kick and it's gonna grow I guess. I loved the last album and I still listen to it. Invincible is my fav song, I love the groove.

So I'm really looking forward to this. Kinda surprised with the credits, no song by Viv and only one and half by Sav. The recording process was also strange (if i read correctly) they were sending parts each other didn't work together in the studio. Fair enough, it was finished a year ago (good job hiding it!) apart from the first single and it was difficult to travel etc. I just can't imagine a band not working together on an album..

Makes me regret not going to the Stadium tour after all. I had a ticket for the 2020 show, it got postponed to a better date in 2021 and to incovenient one this year :(

steel_horse75 03-20-2022 11:28 AM

Def leppard are just a band I can’t get into.
I think I have 1 album.
However, how they treat their fans compared to Jovi is like night and day.

Another new song “Take What You Want”.

I’m liking this one much more than “Kick”. It is a bit Nickelback-y in parts though.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to say that in a negative sense, although some people might see it that way. I used to like Nickelback a lot years ago but their music got more and more samey with each album. I don’t have anything against them and I do think people are way to harsh on them. I get why they receive criticism but there are far worse bands out there than them.

“Fire It Up”

Not sure what to make of this song yet. Not as good as “Take What You Want” but better than “Kick”.

I want this to be the last song I heard before I hear the whole album as I don’t want to spoil too much for myself. It reminds me mostly of "Cruise Control" from Songs from the Sparkle Lounge.

So far we’ve had tracks 1,2 and 3 so it’s like I’m making my way through the sequence of the album very slowly.

B.J. Always 05-21-2022 07:11 PM

When I think of them I think of this:
