At least Everett did still look like he was having a great time. And Phil X tried to make the effort to look like he was into it. It was just Jon that really felt off to be honest.

I watched it again looking for positives as I thought my initial dissapointment might have made me overlook the rest of it.

The band sounded good. Phil X's vocals were definitley up in the mix. I'm not sure if I like that or not. To be honest it kinda made me miss Richie's vocals even more. Though generally the BVs and harmonies were good.

Wanted with a guitarless Jon is still weird to me.

Tico is still cool as hell.

I couldn't really tell how the keyboard guy did as the keys were so low in the mix for the most part.

The audience noise definitely added to the awkwardness. What a terrible idea.

Jon's vocals were definitely doctored.

Not sure if it's just because I haven't listened to any live band stuff from the current line up for a while now, but I felt that Phil was performing the guitar parts much closer to the original versions. I think on tour he sometimes kinda goes off on his own tangents in places. Maybe it's because it was a TV show. I'm not a Shanks fan, but i enjoyed his solo in Bad Name. In many ways I feel that his playing style can be closer to Richie's than Phil's when he makes the effort and doesn't just fall back on the Killers/U2 guitar sounds.

Limitless does nothing for me live at all.

Again, the AMAs were a different show and they only performed one song each so STOP COMPARING.

Same principle though. Bands performing to no audience (which is what Jon is blaming his performance on). No flat performances there...

1 I think Jon is in a zen mode. Plus he's not playing guitar (but I prefer him on the intro of Wanted).
2 This Greg Mayo usually does the guitar with KOS but he did a good job on the keyboard. I prefer hear guitars over keys.
3 I still think Shanks sounds better than Phil (in example his style in Bad Name solo and on Limitless).
4 The weird screens with virtual fans are not showed, which is good 'cause it was really bad... >_< lol.

Hundred percent. I think I've heard Jon say that too.

Also having NO acoustic on Lost Highway and Who says was a really bold choice that changes the vibe of the songs completely. Not for the better or worse, they just sounded.....different.

"somewhere there's a church bell/ that's summoning the choir/somewhere there's a dreamer who would walk 1,000 miles" is a throwback to the "Young Guns" era.
"I hadn't written anything like that in a long time. I like it because of the social justice of it, and taking a stand and saying let's purge ourselves of all of the hurt and hate and division, but who's going to be the one to stop it? Who's going to be the ones that unify us? So, let it rain and let's let the sun shine through."

Let It Rain: Bon Jovi calls for a cleansing of the mind, most notably
"One day, there may come a day when the prejudice disappears / the sleeping bed, the God who prays / or the color of the skin / becomes unjudgmental / the priests and politicians / sell nothing but the truth. When it's gone / that day, you know what it was all for."
The rain symbolizes the need for soul purification and the chance for the sun to shine again.

There has been many songs from especially the Lost Highway album up to WAN that had too many songs with Jon playing acoustic guitar - but Lost Highway and Who Says You Can’t Go Home are two songs that I really think needs an acoustic and where it actually adds something. Obivously Wanted shall never be played with only one acoustic.
Strange Jon needs to concentrate so much on a song like Lost Highway so that he can’t play guitar, as its a song 99% of professional singers would agree is a fairly easy song to sing.

However, we have to remember that LH is kind of a mid-range song, and Jon struggles way more with his middle register nowadays than even his high(er) one, let alone his low one.

Do you think that the album is going to be leaked ?

jimmyjovi89 09-21-2020 08:56 PM

THINFS leaked a week in advance, but with everything that’s going on in the world a lot of new albums are only leaking a day or two in advance. Although Marilyn Masons new one leaked and that’s out in November.
