I'm not so sure about that. U2, Guns N' Roses and Metallica have all done stadium tours similar to Bon Jovi. But while these bands have a very tight production with impressive visuals and pyro all Bon Jovi offers are tacky videos of stripper silhouettes during Bad Medicine and a poorly designed stage. I reckon Bon Jovi are lucky they've got an audience that consists mostly of fans who rarely go to other bands anymore and have no sense of what other acts offer. Once you start comparing like you're currently doing Bon Jovi is in no way in the same league anymore.

The reason Bryan Adams is still as popular as he is in Europe despite not having had a big European hit in 20 years is because he's always kept his prices low and is a consistent live act. I've paid 40 Euro's for a Bryan Adams ticket in 2003 and 50 for Bon Jovi. I paid 65 for Bryan Adams last year and had to pay 100 for a similar Bon Jovi ticket. And Holland is a relatively cheap market, prices in the U.K. have increased a lot more. Both acts still offer the same thing they did 20 years ago but while one act has gotten a lot worse Bryan Adams plays longer shows than he did back then, does a more varied set than he did back then and still seems to enjoy himself on stage all the time.

True, there's not a lot of bad stuff you can find on Bryan Adams' live performances. Super steady and you can feel he still enjoys being on stage. I've seen him a few times and while I was never blown away by his shows, it was always solid. Anytime before 2010 Bon Jovi would have been able to impress when playing after Bryan Adams but right now, I honestly do not know how they will be able to top Bryan Adams. Not that music is a competition in any form, but he shows no sign of slowing down and he can lean on a greatest hits catalogue that is easily as impressive as Bon Jovi's

I even believe that the 'casual' music fan of this genre will know more Adams songs than Bon Jovi songs.

There will also be a lot of fans who buy tickets to see Bryan Adams and who'll think about Bon Jovi as another 'nice to have' while not having seen them before. Unless Bon Jovi is going to play a hits packed setlist with all their big ballads and Blaze of Glory back in the set, I'm affraid Bryan Adams fans will be unfamiliar with 70% of the Bon Jovi setlist while the other way round, everyone will know more than 70% of what Adams will play.

I really wonder how that tour will go down although it is a great bill in my opinion.

I think you don't know Bon Jovi's audience well, especially in America. No matter how badly Jon does it, he just has to move his ass and smile.... no matter what Bryan Adams does in his time, that's the sad reality.

Visually I've been pretty impressed with that the band do, minus the 2013 tour. If anything sometimes it's the one thing the Band has going for them when they sound like that. They have to hide behind all that.

But I was more talking about bundling the new album in with the ticket cost to pad sales.

Weird, 2013 ( Europe ) had most impressive stage design since 2001 when they had the empire stage rooftop as a stage design.
2003 looked huge but failed because of a bad lightshow, so it had all potential to be Stones/U2 - ish but it wasn't at all.
2005 was pretty cool, just as 2003 but fell short for the same reasons.
2007 was back to the basic stage but fortunately with a nice screen that was wrapped around the speakers of the stage.
2009/2010 was fully indoor but nothing special ( look at the MSG dvd)
2011 greates hits tour was nothing but a half rond circle ( inspired by what pink floyd used 20 years before) with a huge screen ( but that's just like a big TV) and poor lights.
2013 was the Sofia stage - for once that looked cool !
2019 THINFS tour europe was relatively classic but the visuals and screens were nice. The curved thing really gave it that little extra.

Fair, I was speaking indoor, I should have specified. I haven't personally seem them outdoors since....oh wow. 2006? I can't remember if the Toronto stadium show in 2011 was covered or not.

You only described the outdoor stages and I mostly agree with these assessments; however, both 2010 and 2013 tours had really nice indoor/arena designs. The MSG DVD you referring was from the LH tour [2008]. In 2010, I was really impressed by all the moving robot screens (We Got It Goin' On is a great example of how those worked). I didn't see a show in 2013, but those pillars with screens looked pretty cool!

Well, women are what Backstage mainly consists of, I think...

Captain_jovi 03-05-2020 07:56 PM

It's been 90 percent women for decades, nothing surprising here.
