For me the one issue i have with Metallica on the last few albums....the intros are way too long.
Its ok if a song comes up on random or in a playlist but stick the album on and its a hard listen after several songs. I think this is what the review is saying...its a hard listen as we have loads of long songs with long intros. Im looking forward to it but Metallicas latest stuff has become music you really have to be in the mood for. Ive enjoyed what ive heard but know that there will be times when i cant be arsed with it. What do you think of the new album? some nice surprises, but the songs are too long.
Some songs are growing on me. And that's cool. Next video . |

I do not hate the album because at the end of the day it is not poor or badly done. I just find it an odd mix of excellent and bland, and it swings betwee both in a single song. |

Here you can see how the experience of a song like Inamorata improves, making some cuts in those repetitive parts. It just flows better for me. . |
its the first album since the Black album that I instantly like - i did like most of Hardwired but dont like Death Magnetic or St Anger.
Theres some old and new Metallica on this and I think thats why its so good. Of course some songs are too long but thats Metallica. Sent from my SM-X700 using Tapatalk |
METALLICA's '72 Seasons' No. 2 On BILLBOARD 200 Album Chart (sold 146,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release) and No. 1 in UK.
April 27 2023 Update! 72 Seasons is N#1 on BILLBOARD top album sales. That's crazy. |
metallica are huge. They also have an excellent social media team who flood socials with Metallica stuff even when inactive.

Aloha !
I went to the opening night of this tour. I saw Metallica last on Pinkpop and thought that was one of the worst shows I've ever seen any big band do. Last night wasn't much better. There were tempo changes, tempo changes, tempo changes and tempo changes on top of messed up fills every 4 bars. Lars is all over the place, dominates the mix and frankly takes all the life out of the show. It got to a point with the entire band standing 200 meters away from eachother trying to find the groove all while Lars is not connected to the entire thing. The setlist was alright but not the rarities fest they'd promised and had a total lack of flow with a small break after every 3 songs which meant they were never giving a full show and you'd never get into it. The visuals weren't particularly great either. You were either looking at cheap graphics or partial shots of the band. I'd say this was my last time seeing Metallica unless they change drummers. I don't think they mind though, it's pretty clear they're doing it for the sake of doing it as opposed to an actual drive of wanting to perform at their very best. Near the end of the show they got close to a parody act pretending to be Metallica than actually being Metallica. And the sad thing is that their core audience has gotten so used to it they're able to get away with it as well. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

Using energetic songs in the first three songs could change the mood of the rest of the show. I don't know how James can sing Lux in such high pitches for his age. Apart from that, let's see what happens tonight. The new setting has left me cold, it seems like an attempt to be U2 or something. At least I would like there to be more light play with those lasers that could be seen in the Lux Aeterna video. If you're going to be like U2, do better. |
Night two seems like a big improvement.
Until it Sleeps sound awesome. This one ages like fine wine. If Darkness Had A Son live sounds better than on the album. Fight Fight with Fire still an earthquake. . |

A fair point. About the songs on the new album, well I guess as a fan I always have that curiosity to know what they are like in a live environment. But I agree, with 3 songs I think it's enough. Just rotate it. Were you also on the second night? what do you think about it? . |
I had a great time at both shows while Lars drumming has been poor for ages. Very sloppy. Sound was bad the first night but really enjoyed the setlist a lot for both shows. Stage and visuals where great for me.

Compared the official soundboards of these 2 Amsterdam shows with my audience recordings.
Drums have been polished, vocals are pitched and auto tuned. The guy in the studio made them sound so much better. Especially Lars benefits from this. |

I adore Livemet mixes. So nice. Sometimes I wish the voice was a bit more emphasized though. |

As for new stuff; I like to hear new songs if I think they're great but I feel 72 Seasons is just alright at best. Throwing 3 new songs of 72 Seasons in a 16 song setlist is pretty much the most you can do or your focus will shift towards mediocrity. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

A fantastic performance in my book.
Audience Recording Soundboard Livemet I think it's a pretty fair polish, as they are not manipulating things too much, just benefiting from a more consistent mix with respect to the direct sound of the venue, which seems more patchy and disperse (with those reverberations). . |
Well, do the same for 72 Seasons and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I was not there, so I can only compare terrible audience recordings, but I do notice in this one that the acoustics of the place were terrible. And the mix very unbalanced. The instruments do not differ due to an excess of reverberation in the place, was it so? Audience Obviously in soundboard audio, they can balance each instrument to its corresponding volume, sounding clearer and polishing both the vocals and the instruments. SBD Leaving the performance of the band aside, I would like to know if all this mess is due to the sound technicians not being up to the circumstances or maybe it was due to the venue. |

However, you can't have 4 drumkits or whatever it is and have them sound the same every time either. It doesn't work like that, even if you setup the mikes the same way. Lars' drumkit sounded different every time it showed up. It's a novelty idea they're perfectly aware off isn't possible but they rely on gimmicks because they know their audience doesn't really care for great audio to begin with.
