Predictable, yet good results. Though My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms is way too high, though.

Roll on the next one, Savvi! :p

Thanks, Savvi! Amazing album and great songs. The best song won :)
Bitter Wine demo is very good, I like it a lot.

Thanks Savvi, great job again. Looks like my Top3 is identical to the one in the final results :)
By the way, thanks for the link to Bitter Wine alternative version. I haven’t heard it before. It sounds really interesting.

Which leads me to the though that they had the intention to put this one on the album and just swapped it in the last moment for the stripped-down acoustic performance.

Very well thought out. I've wondered these things before as well. When Crush came out the lyrics were posted online and they differed from what was on the final version that was for sale in stores. Once the promo for Crush was uploaded to sites like Napster and the likes it turned out that Jon had re-recorded various verses if I remember.

When listening to the demo for Bitter Wine it just doesn't sound like anything that'd be put on the final tracklist though, it sounds too much of a demo, too rough. When Jon did interviews during the These Days era he always described it as an R&B song and never mentioned anything of it being a rocking song, so I wonder when the plan changed. :)

Salaam Aleikum,

I remember from an interview pre These Days where Jon said the album was almost finished, the last song they were working on was a tune called "Bitter Wine". So it could very well be that it was re-recorded and worked on until the end. We don't know the number of metamorphoses it was undergoing... back in the day they really seemed to work on songs to get them right, see "Something For The Pain".

As stated in the New Bon Jovi Album thread I didn’t get the hype of These Days. I like it but theres too many slow songs on it. Jovi got miserable. The US disliked it and this era was the bands biggest in the UK. The song Always helped them get a head of steam in the UK and on that back of that song and These Days they sold out 3 nights at Wembley Stadium. The first single from These Days spelt trouble for me. It could and should have been a statement of intent if they had released Hey God first. But they didn’t. They played it safe with the average TAALS (which compared to Always was so poor). Hey God was released as the band were winding down the tour and it was an afterthought. Something For The Pain was the 2nd single and again was average then the painful Lie To Me was released. Three really poor single choices.

These Days represents funny times in my life. I left a job I loved for a job I hated and split with my first ever girlfriend after 7 years together. I really didn’t need Jovi to be miserable and wanted a thumping album but I didn’t get it from Jon & Co. The album left me deflated. When I listen to it now it brings back those memories but I still think it’s not a great album. It was the start of their patchy albums. As great as Always was, everything after hasn’t been as consistent from the band. Enough of me going on here are my scores:

14. Hey God

13. Hearts Breaking Even

12. Damned

11. My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms

10. Something To Believe In

09. These Days

08. (It's Hard) Letting You Go

07. If That’s What It Takes

06. All I Want Is Everything

05. Bitter Wine

04. Something For The Pain

03. This Aint A Love Song

02. Lie To Me

01. Diamond Ring

my scores have changed a lot and as ive said many times These Days is probably my 2ns fav Jovi album. The older myself and the album get I love it more.

I think i just wasnt ready for this album i was too young (20) and had a lot of crap going on job and girlfriend wise.
