Have a nice day - old version
I think the version of Have a nice day from the American Music Awards sounds a hell of a lot better than the new version. After seeing that video again I think the old version of the song would have been a much bigger hit than the retooled version. Huge mistake! Anyone agree?

Actually I think the old version was better too. I loved the old chorus but hated the solo from the old version. I really love how they had a part where they were singing the chorus all slowed down. It's really cool!

I think the chorus in the new version flows a lot better. The double "ohs" from the original version seemed too much like living on a prayer to me.
|
Does anyone have the old version in full?
|
Did we ever hear the complete version of the original?? does it exsist outside of the bands archives??
|
I prefer the new version. Although it was interesting to hear the 1st version w/ different lyrics and I especially liked the acoustic part after the solo.

Can anybody PM me a link of where to get the old version in full? It'd be very appreciated.

These are the lyrics to the first version:
Why you wanna tell me how to life my life? And who are you to tell me if it's black or white? Momma can you help me try to understand, Is innocence the difference between a boy and a man? My daddy live to die that's just the price that he paid Sacrificed his life just slaving away. Oh if there's one thing I could give you To get you through the night Oh a little something to hang onto To make you feel alive Brighter than a diamond, sharper than a knife Standing on the ledge, it might save your live If there's one thing I could say Have a nice day Have a nice day Living in a broken home of hopes and dreams, Take a look around you nothing's what it seems. Who are you to tell me where a flower grows? Who are you to tell me that a child don't know? Innocence has died out on a dead end street Looking for forgiveness, down on his knees. BRIDGE Have a nice day Have a nice day Have a nice day Have a nice day SOLO Oh if there's one thing I could give you To get you through the night Oh a little something to hang onto To make you feel alive BRIDGE CHORUS I much prefer the final version - it has a rawer rock edge than the original, and the solo is much better. I wish they'd kept in the quiet part though, it sounds great, and makes the song a bit longer. |

I've got it too. I agree that it's better than the version on Have A Nice Day. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

Wow, that second verse is pure crap. "Who are you to tell me where a flower grows?" What the hell is that? The quiet part sounds interesting though, if anybody is in the mood for sharing I'd appreciate it greatly!
Good on Jon for re-writing this one. Phil |

It sounds like fallow to me, but this is a very low quality version of the song. It makes more sense to me than flower. Satnight

Please, please PM me link for that song... Its not cool to talka aobut something that you didnt even hear... :-(
|
Where did they play the full old version? At the AMA they played only a snippet.
|
I'm just going by what I hear, but I'm pretty much 100% it's 'flower'. That's what it sounds like, and it makes perfect sense.
Rubbish line though! |

*Sigh*, read between the lines:
So yeah, I quite like the old version, the acoustic part is good (PM me your email if you want me to send it to you) but some of the lyrics aren't really that great, esp. the second verse |
It does sound quite rough, and overall I think that the lyrics were improved by the final version, but I like the acoustic part after the solo, I think it sounds good and would have been nice to keep in.
|
I think it sounds more overproduced than the final version.
The way the backing vocals and the lead vocals are mixed together makes it sound like a technique that should be used on Britney's records or Hillary Duff's. The accoustic part is good but it doesn't flow right with the song, it just sounds like they're trying to recreate the Undivided ending part. The solo is wayy better now and I miss the last part to much "When the world keeps trying to drag me down..." oohh and the lyrics are much better now, both on the second verse and on the chorus. |

The guitar sound, especially in the intro, has a great feeling to it. PROBABLY due to the quality, but still, it has a little buzz which sounds nice. The vocals also sound rawer, and the break before the second chorus works better. Also, I think the original chorus words work better with the melody (apart from the double oooh).
However, the solo is way too deep in the mix, and has the Everyday-ish "I'll just do lotsa bends, that'll sound rad!" to it. The break works for me, especially with the riff coming up again after it. Yet, the riff seems to be slightly different, a little more edgy, but I can't say I prefer one over the other. Still, repeating the "oooooh" twice in the chorus doesn't work as good as the "oooh" - "Iiiii" in the final version. Well, and the lyrics aren't that bad IMO - not when you think of how "great" the final version is as well. At least there's no "I'm gonna live my life" in them. |
