Review - The Killers - Sams Town
I have just bought the best CD of 2006 :D
Standout tracks are Sams Town, Bling, Read my mind (very Bruce Springsteen sounding), Bones (gorgeous song this one) and why do I keep counting. I cant decide yet wether it beats Hot Fuss, I think the main difference is their arnt many fillers on this one like they were on HF. Ok theres no Brightside or All the things weve done but theres some sure fire classic on here :) |

Wow, impressed with the Killers
They stink live every time I see them on tv (the guy is NEVER singing in tune) and he really cuts it close on the album too, but this is a good album. Read My Mind is great. Like crossing Springsteen with U2 B |
I cant stop listening to why do I keep counting its a masterpeice. The river is wild sounds like Born to run, I like it though.
Btw to ^ the Killers never seem as good on TV live as when you're there. Its the anthems that come accross really well, the whole atmosphere and everything. They remind me of Oasis in that way, Liam isnt a great frontman or brilliant singer but the crowd and songs are what make the shows for me |
I've been listening to Sam's Town a lot since I got it a few days ago and I really like it. I think I like it better than Hot Fuss actually.
Just read Entertainment Weekly's review of the album. They didn't like it but I thought the last paragraph was interesting. In any case, the Killers are probably going to be around awhile. History teaches us that in each generation there is a desire for immense songs about beautiful losers, carved from canyon-size slabs of major-chord rock, with copious references to fire and desire and wild rivers and ''breakin' out of this two-star town.'' There's already a band, touring arenas, that specializes in this sort of thing — but they're getting on in years. Which is where the Killers come in. The MySpace generation has found its Bon Jovi. |

Didn't expect to like it all that much, but on first listen it is actually better than I thought it'd be. Where White Boys Dance really stood out, the rest I can't remember so much yet, but I'll listen to it some more and report back later

I like Sam's town musically more than lyrically. It's taking me a little bit to get into. A lot of the lyrics are just a little too ambigious for me. Plus, I know I'm showing my age, but some of the songs just seem like updated ELO songs to me. I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.
