Crossroads remastered?

On the CD cover for the other bon jovi remastered CD's, it has crossroads. I searched for it, but it only came with the regular black plastic case, and not the celar plastic one that says, "The Bon Jovi Remastered." Does anyone know why, or is this the remastered version?

Well, I have the one which clearly says "The Bon Jovi Remasters" and I'd bet that, unless you find a copy produced years ago, any and every current copy would be from this series.

I saw one at Best Buy yesterday that had the original package. Weird, right?

Really? Mine does not state that it's remastered, and as far as I know, all the copies I've seen in stores don't either.

Does the Sound and Vision version of CR contain the remastered version?

I took a look at my CD and it said "Remastered"... I think it was my first Bon Jovi CD, I think around 3 or 4 years ago... So maybe the stopped making the remastered version recently. Or maybe it's just a given that it's remastered.

Stupid question - but if something is 'remastered' does it sound any different? One of my albums that I have ordered is remastered, and I wonder if it's going to sound different...

I'm not an expert on the technical details, but I think it just means it sounds a bit clearer, possibly a bit louder too

Heh, I remember when I first started collecting the Bon Jovi albums (when I was 14 - 15), I thought that "Bon Jovi Remastered" was a different band covering Bon Jovi songs

If I remember correctly the remasters were basically just new digital transfers from the original masters, done in 1998, 20-bit transfers. Presumably they've been re-done since then because at least Slippery When Wet has been released as DVD-Audio which is 24-bit.

My bro's got the original and I have the remastered version - the only difference I can see in the packaging is that the older version has the red/white spine and the remastered is all white. The remastered version also has the little leaflet advertising the back-catalogue remastered series.

My version has the red/white spine, but also the catalog.

I suppose, unless someone has put the catalogue in an old case (which I doubt), it must be the remastered then but my version has an all white spine with 'Cross Road' written in black bold font. No red on it at all.

Grypweed 03-21-2009 09:46 AM

My remastered version has the white spine, my old verison has the red spine as well as saying "14 Classic Grooves" instead of "The Best Of" :/ The "Exit" sign above Alec is blacked out on the remaster too. Hrm.

Is it like that on anyone else's?

RS8MB0R8 03-21-2009 10:20 AM

Yeah, a quick search on google images turns up many variations of where the album name text appears in relation to the background image - something I realised when creating my sig. :)

Thomas Anderson 03-21-2009 10:58 AM

My version -

14 Classic Grooves was never remastered so you've probably got the original version with Prayer '94 instead of In These Arms (International version) / Tokyo Road (Japanese version).

Cross Road was released as "14 Classic Grooves" in North America and as "The Best Of" in the rest of the world. Unlike the other versions of Cross Road it didn't contain Never Say Goodbye (Hence the 14 in the title), all the other versions of Cross Road had 15 tracks.

When they remastered Cross Road they released "The Best Of Bon Jovi" worldwide and North America got a version of Cross Road with 15 tracks. All the other original versions are out of print and whenever they press new copies they're the remastered versions.

Sound and Vision contains the remastered version of Cross Road.

Actually, there is no remastered version of Crossroad. I mean, in 1998 they released an issue in the series that has the "Bon Jovi Remasters" thing on the side, but I compared all my remastered CDs to the originals. While BJ, 7800, SWW, NJ and KT clearly sound remastered (louder, cleaner etc.), CR and TD just don't: Exactly the same masters as the old ones. And that actually makes me angry, because it's making a promise that's not being kept.. Just cashing in, as many people who have the old ones would go out and buy all the CDs again as the remastered versions are supposed to sound better.

Apart from the advanced sound, the remastered CDs have a louder level and different running times. CR hasn't. The only difference I saw is that they have some programming mistakes, when you jump to "Saturday Night" or "Runaway" you'll miss the first half a second, as they're still part of the previous track or the space in between the songs. So keep your hands away from THAT version!

Correct me if you experienced it differently.

RS8MB0R8 03-23-2009 12:26 PM

Yeah, my version has a similar issue with LYHOM and YGLABN. The first half-second of track 7 is actually tagged on the end of track 6.

Something I'm also intrigued to know about everyone else's versions of the CD is a little thing I noticed on 'Livin' on a Prayer'. My brother and I were listening through the song at full blast when we were younger (as you do!) and just before KTF kicks in, someone can clearly be heard going 'Ha'. I don't know whether it's a laugh - it sounds more like it was someone starting to speak and then it cuts out but I was wondering if anyone else has this on their copy and which versions it turns up on? Is it on the original as we never checked?
