Van Halen

I wonder if there are some Van Halen fans on this board :D
And who's the best vocalist in VH?...David Lee Roth?...Sammy Hagar?
or Gary Cherone?
I'd prefer Sammy Hagar, because he's an incredible person among others.

I AM!!!!!!!

I'd say I think Sammy is a better vocalist, he has an amazing voice.... However, I'd say I prefere the songs they wrote with DLR, e.g Hot for Teacher, Panama, The Cradle will Rock, e.t.c.

DLR was meant to be doing this monsters of rock tour with Whitesnake, but he pulled out

Also, has anybody heard DLR solo albums???? His band was probably better than Van Halen (character and actual quality of songs asside), Steve Vai guitars, Billy Sheehan bass...... they really rocked!

Anybody know anything about Van Halen getting back together? There were numerous rumours, including with David Coverdale (which have been denied), and I know DLR went into the studio with VH a year or so ago..... Apparently Eddie does want to get back to music after his illness...... so watch this space!

letitrock 04-04-2003 02:32 PM

I prefer Hagar's voice

but I prefer the DLR period of Van Halen.

I have a video of the US Festival in 1983 and that's what rock n roll is

Rob 04-04-2003 05:17 PM

I prefer the David Lee Roth era too. They wrote some of their best music when he was with them, but he kept pissing off and joining someone else. However, I struggle to distiguish between the voices because I only have the best of vol. 1 cd.

Rune 04-04-2003 07:42 PM

Van Halen rock - especially with Panama and Jump.

There isn't. :?

I think they were going to make 2 volumes - the first of DLR's songs and the second with Sammy's songs, but someone (the record company? I don't know who) decided to combine them and they kept the name Vol. 1.

You need to do your research Jess!!!!!!

Anybody else think calling a best of album Vol.1 is being very very presumptuous! I love them, but that was just plain arrogance.......Having said that, I already have a fair idea about what's going to go in my (repete Prescription) box set.

Yeah I was gonna make another CD with various other VH songs, but I haven't got round to it yet. :D

Hot for Teacher is a great song

I still can't quite get the guitar for it right

I'll make it simple for you. These are the songs that should be in BOV2 if it ever comes out:

0. Janie's Cryin
1. You Really Got Me
2. Spanish Fly
3. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
4. Everybody Want Some
5. Mean Street
6. Little Guitars
7. Hot For Teacher (I hate this song with a passion but it was some kind of a 'hit')
8. Best Of Both Worlds
9. Love Walks In
10. Finish What Ya Started
11. Runaround
12. Top Of The World
13. Don't Tell Me
14. Not Enough
15. Without You
16. That's Why I Love You (unreleased Cherone track, find it in some file sharing community, this is the best track from the '3' session)

I enjoy all eras but I prefer Hagar's VH songs to everyone else's. Better melody and vocals. Guitar-riff wise, the Roth era wins hands down. The best rock riffs ever came from Van Halen.

I feel that Cherone got the short end of the stick. He should've been given more chance and EVH shouldn't write long ass songs, because, no matter how technically good they are, that's not what VH is all about.

1984 enaugh?

letitrock 04-06-2003 04:40 PM

Nope. They never topped that. Even though I prefer Hagar era, this album is THE BEST VH album ever. Top to bottom, no filler.

me wise magic is one of the best songs i have ever heard...

Thierry 04-09-2003 01:08 AM

I like Jump, Can't Stop Loving You and Why could this be love the most. I saw Van Halen in 96 as support act for Bon Jovi. A lot of people left after Van Halen was finished playing. ;)

Gotta agree. I didn't like it at first but it grew on me, and I love listening to it, with the deep vocals and good guitar riffs.

Jump is the obvious choice, and I like it, but also Why Can't This Be Love?, Dreams, Dance The Night Away, and Right Now are all favourates.

letitrock 04-09-2003 02:37 AM

run in with the devil
hot for teacher
somebody get me a doctor
mean streets
beer drinkers and hell raisers
panama
jamie's crying

all my favourites at the moment
