What do Tico and David think?
I’m genuinely intrigued.
We all know Bon Jovi has evolved into more of a business than a band but you’d like to think Tico and David have a genuine affection for Jon. That being the case, do you think they’d ever tackle the issue of his vocals (or rather lack of them) and even go as far as to suggest retirement? You could make the argument that true friends would. At this point are they carrying on out of loyalty, fear or the appeal of a pay cheque? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Jon is well aware of his own failings but you wonder whether anyone within the inner sanctum dare raise them? If the famous brotherhood still exists, they would. This current tour seems like a bit of a car crash and the longer this version of Bon Jovi continues, the more harm it does to their legacy. Surely that concerns Tico and David, if not their boss. They’ve gone from one of, if not the best rock band in the world, to a pale imitation. No Richie, a singer who can’t sing and a host of randomers on stage. Including a producer who should be nowhere near live performances by the way. The whole thing is just very sad. |
I can't really see Tico and David doing it just for the paycheck or out of fear. Could be loyalty, but could also just be that they still get joy out of going out there on stage and playing for people, so they keep doing it simply because they like it.

Why in the world would they be sad? Because of Jon's voice? That's ridiculous.
These guys are in their early to late 60s and doing exactly what they should be doing at their age. Semi retired guys who get together periodically to relive their youth doing what they love to do. They are still together as a band for 40 years, playing arenas all over the world, living a life that we all wish to live. Sure thing could always be better but in the music industry, things could be much worse. Sent from my SM-A015V using Tapatalk |
What do the fans think when they pay hundreds of dollars to see the shows?

I also think most casual fans realize that his voice has weakened but don't necessarily realize the extent of it because a lot gets drowned out. Causal fans leave more disappointed with the amount of non hits played than Jon's voice. When you want Bed Of Roses and Always and get Lost Highway and Just Older, it's a bigger disappointed. Then I guess it will naturally drop once casual fans stop falling for it. It really doesn't take a lot of effort to look up a YouTube clip to hear what they currently sound like.

They were probably never going in the first place and just used that as an excuse. Sent from my SM-A015V using Tapatalk |

Tico and David are definitely staying with Jon out of loyalty and because they probably still enjoy going out there and entertaining the fans. They are both well aware of the current condition of Jon's voice and they probably don't care.
They've been by Jon's side for close to 40 years and they've basically witnessed the evolution and aging of Jon's voice they've likely accepted the condition of Jon's voice and moved passed it. They will remain by Jon's side until the very last show and tour. |
Sure I absolutely think some casual fans that love the hits are going on YouTube to check out what the band sounds like but if I'm casual to the point where I know the hits and see them every three or four years but not really "in the loop" of what's been going on, I wouldn't be on YouTube looking at live clips. To me, that puts it one level past casual.
THINFS was a rough tour but at least the hits sounded like the hits, this version of the band is strange sounding. Band is tight, key is dropped, Jon is terrible. RD does have a point in that the experience is more than the voice, it's up to you if that turns you off completely. |
A lot of people are saying he has sounded terrible since 2017, I'm not so sure.. the first leg or two of THINFS Tour he sounded fine.. not great - certainly a decline from 2013, but still more than strong enough. In 2019 yes he sounded bad but I thought that was just from the constant touring for 2 years and he would be improved or at least closer to his 2017 voice by the 2020 tour (now 2022 tour). Instead, this is next-level bad... nowhere close to anything from the THINFS tour imo.. it's simply TERRIBLE.. hard to listen to. But Dave & Tico probably don't care, they probably have Jon turned down in their mix.. I know I would.
