Neurotica

Angel flying solo
Must have gone and sold your halo
She's accidental innocence
And white trash elegance (alright)

I just ****ing fell in love with this song 6 years later.

Oh, I've listened to it before, but it was kinda muddy to listen to from my point of view then and I never really read the lyrics. When it got played..it would be only when I play the Crush CD...and since usually I'm going off mp3s...that isn't that often. Mostly I just remember only the chants of "Neurotica" and that alone sounded kinda catchy.

Tonight was the first time I listened to the song post-implant. I'm blown away. It's easily the best song on Crush. It's got everything going. It's got fun, balls, and a chorus that will bury itself in your head like a hatchet. It's honest. It's what I can easily accept as post-These Days-having-fun. One Wild Night always induced a bit of a gagging reaction. It has a bit too much sugar in it for my taste. But it's got some aspects of it that I like so I do listen to it. I dont' have to suffer that with Neurotica.

Anyway...that's my embarassing belated take on that song. I hang my head in shame.

andy_ash 08-16-2006 01:38 PM

it's just a shame about the bridge section, it's has if jon's forgotten the words and is just repeating him self. how does it go?.... when call her, i like to call her, and when i call her i call her and they some body hit's i in the gut to produce the huh! apart from that bit i think that would have been on the final tracklist and not just a bonus. Richie's on top form on this track too.

bjcrazycpa 08-16-2006 02:53 PM

Okay, Dave you are going to make me go back and now listen to this song more closely. I've never been overly fond of this tune but I like the lyrics you posted and it makes me want to go back and give it a second chance. So, thank you for that.

Always loved this song. Both lyrics and music are great :)

Not Old_Just Older 08-16-2006 04:43 PM

I love it to... Its just like the voice of reason aka Bleeding Purist said It got balls.... and it has a killer solo!

Bleeding Purist Im glad you found an old song to fall in love with... its always really nice when it happens... For me lately its the song "Drive" its on one of Jons DA singles...

Captain_jovi 08-16-2006 05:18 PM

Not to de-rail but congrats on the implants!! How's that going for you?

Alphavictim 08-16-2006 05:20 PM

I never was too crazy about it, but I've always thought it should have been on Crush.

It's a great song, through and through, sort of dirtier and rough for Bon Jovi, and it should have been on Crush, no doubt!!!

I love that song so much, and I think Dirty Little Secret and it are like sister songs.

OWN is great, I think though! Slide guitar, screams from Jon, a great bassline, yeah yeah yeahs at the end, good lyrics. Perfectly constructed song! I don't like the Live album studio version as much - it flows better, but its too poppy or electronic sounding.

JoviForever 08-16-2006 07:05 PM

The depressing thing is, it's by far the best song from the Crush era, and it didn't even make the full bloody version!

SamboraQueen21 08-16-2006 08:08 PM

This is one of my favorite songs to blast when working out!

I love the Hell out of this song. Oh man. SO MUCH.

Vax 08-16-2006 09:20 PM

Rush has a track titled Neurotica on their 1991 Roll the Bones CD. I wonder if this played into their decision not to include it on Crush.

Both tracks are equally great, but completly different from one another.

aserkijn 08-16-2006 09:39 PM

I Can't find the song anywhere...

aaah, dude that was sarcastic right?

Anyway, Neurotica is def the (only) best song on crush

Yvonne 08-16-2006 11:21 PM

Havent listened to this for ages may just get it out and put it on, cracking song though

Rob 08-17-2006 02:20 PM

Yeah I also love Neurotica. It's so different to any other post 2000 song. It just sounds so raw and unpolished. I like the distorted riff and the "up yours" sort of attitude in the way Jon sings the lyrics.

It's stupid, but one of the factors that actually turned me off to even giving the song a chance all those years was the fact it fades in at the beginning. It leaves me feeling like I missed out on something..came in too late. So I had a "why bother?" attitude as far as listening to it.

I think it's kinda a cool how it fades in. When you think about it so does Prayer, although in Prayer nothing really happens properly until the bass and drums kick in.

Precisely. The keyboards fade in. Keyboards do that. It's a swelling effect. Not the same with Neurotica where it's like you are approaching and they've already gotten started..so you KNOW you missed something.

I really doubt it, there were It's My Life's and I Believe's before the Jovi versions

If I had to guess why it was left off, I'd say it's cos the lyrics are thematically too similar to She's A Mystery / Mystery Train

Neurotica80 08-17-2006 03:16 PM

Its ok I suppose...:D

well again a double bad decision, if it was only for that reason then they would've/should've had left of one of the mystery's (if not only for the similar titles)

She's A Mystery is a complete waste of space. I like Mystery Train. It would have shone more had the tracklist been handled better.

So did you give it a 2nd chance or what? Don't worry...we'll still respect you if you still hate it.

I'm gonna have to pull up "Drive." I never gave that proper attention either and I'm pretty big on the DA period. In fact I have a new favorite song off the album I will probably wind up going into on another post.

I did give it another listen and I do have a whole new appreciation for it now that you've made me listen to the lyrics more carefully. I'm digging it!

First time I heard the song I was hooked. I remember when I lost the album in about 2003 and bought a new version only for Neurotica, which of course was on the album over here. Easily the best song on the album.

I'm gonna quote something I wrote in another thread in reply to someone asking where you can get the song. I don't like the song at all or Say It Isn't So but I'm with you on Mystery Train.

It's on the Japanese version of the album and is totally lame, like a bad Def Leppard song don't bother trying to get hold of it.

Dave 1986 09-14-2016 11:54 PM

I just listened to this great song in the car just now for the first time in a while! Definitely one of the best efforts by the band this millennium. If only it was on Crush and more songs from that album were in this vein. It really would have been the "great, big, fun rock 'n' roll album" that Richie described it as back then.
