Star Wars

Is anyone here a Star Wars fan? I can say I am. I was introduced to it at an early age and I've been hooked ever since I watched a New Hope. My favorite list would have to go:

1. The Revenge of the Sith
2. The Phantom Mennace
3. The Empire Strikes Back
4. The Attack of teh Clones
5. A New Hope
6. The Return of the Jedi.

I used to have alot of Star Wars collectables too,(lightsabers, poster, special eddition dvds). I just wanted to see if anyone else liked the series.

Captain Walrus 05-27-2007 07:14 PM

*Raises hand* Yeah, I'm a massive fan, although my area of fandom is less about knowing obscure facts about the films, and more about reading the Expanded Universe books, have you read any of them?

Thomas Anderson 05-27-2007 07:19 PM

Well it's one of the biggest, most successful and most popular film series of all time, so I'm sure there'll be at least some replies here :)

I'm a fan myself, I'm too young to have seen the films on their original release, but I saw them on video when I was a kid and liked them, and then after the release of The Phantom Menace I watched them again and then saw that, and then followed the prequels eagerly. I went to see Episode II thrice and Episode III twice (though I liked Episode III more than Episode II, just a case of oppurtunity)

I don't think I could place an order on them as to any particular favourite, because as with any continuing film series such as this I like to look upon them as a whole and not as separate entities. I am one who actually does like the prequels though, I know many don't (and please let's not turn this thread into one bashing them)

I have the Special Edition boxset of the OT, and also I bought the Limited Edition ones separately (with the pre-SE on the 2nd disc) and just the prequels seperate, and I will get them out every so often and have a watch-through them. I look forward to seeing them all in HD at some point, and though I haven't read anything for a while I did hear that Episode I was going to be touched up a bit, mostly to add a CG Yoda instead of that monsterous puppet. I'm surprised they didn't do a theatrical re-release this year actually, since it's the 30th Anniversary of the original.

I did get a toy lightsabre around the time of Episode I, and I've had posters of all 6 films I think, though currently the only one up on my wall is the Episode III poster. Not really a big collector though, so not got any toys or whatever else.

I have read a few, my favourites of the ones I've read are the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn. I think it would make a great set of films.

I haven't really had that much time to read them. I'll have to go to my nearest book store to pick them up.

I've been doing that a lot lately, I think I just try to type too fast sometimes. Corrected now :p

Cowgirl77 05-27-2007 10:08 PM

I like Star Wars, but prefer the "old" ones :)

Solid Sambora 05-27-2007 10:27 PM

I've got quite a lot of the collectables, although I've not bought too much in the last few years.

Personally, I prefer the original trilogy. The three prequels are ok, but I can honestly say I wouldn't mind if he hadn't made them.

As for the Expanded Universe, I've read most of the books involving the main gang, not really into the more diverse stuff. The new 'Legacy' series I've only started now, not sure I'm gonna like the direction it's taking with Jacen etc. To be honest, it's not been the same since what happened to Chewie...

I've only just started on the Legacy series too, been waiting for months for the first one of them to be released in paperback so I didn't have to pay extortionate amounts for it!

Who has read I, Jedi? One of my favourite books EVER

Cross Road 05-28-2007 04:29 PM

I just got done watching the Phantom Mennace again. I must say, this movie gets better everytime I watch it. The only thing I don't like is the puppet Yoda, haha. Also, I didn't know how great of a swordsman Maul was until I watched it again.

Iceman 05-28-2007 05:27 PM

I love the original trilogy and don't really care about the new ones. Revenge Of The Sith was the best, but Phantom Menace was total crap.

As to other things related to SW, I've read all the "original" comics and I liked those, but the books have all been pretty poor. And the new comics were pretty horrible, if for nothing else than the naive drawing style. I just couldn't read those.

I used to have a massive collection of SW action figures as well, not sure where those are now.

Veloz 05-28-2007 06:01 PM

Another big SW fan here! :D

I'm into reading some EU, but my favorites definetly are The Thrawn Trilogy, Shadows of the Empire and the Han Solo trilogy. I need to get up to date on my EU, cause i'm stuck halfway thru the NJO series and i want to finish this one before i go to the Legacy series

Solid Sambora: OMG dont even remind me of the Chewie issue, that was painful

Btw, did u all see the Clone Wars sneak peek? http://www.starwars.com/

Kathleen 05-28-2007 07:14 PM

My daughter's significant other runs a Star Wars website and sells "action figures". We tease him and call them dolls LOL.

I have trouble getting a discount LOL. Last summer I wanted to buy my husband a light saber for his birthday (I know - they never grow up ) and my daughter finally negotiated a deal for me LOL. Kids do come in handy after a while.

Does she happen to have a Darth Maul lightsaber?

Check the website that I posted earlier in the thread. And it's not my daughter's site - it's her boyfriend's site. He is the only one that deals with it.

I still have my Luke Skywalker lightsaber (his green one from Return Of The Jedi), it lit up and made all the sounds. It was the coolest toy ever!

I never had Luke's. Obi-Wan's was my favorite.

Redshift 06-14-2007 04:29 PM

I had Darth Vaders lightsaber when I was a kid.

With the new series, I bought lightsabers for my kids. A Count Dooku one, Darth Maul & Qui Gon one too. Also got a "Make your own lightsaber kit" for my 6 year old. It has run through my veins as much as BJ has for years.
(Went and saw original in cinema when it first came out, I was four).

My Order:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. Attack of the Clones
5. Return of the Jedi
6.The Phantom Menace

Cross Road, have you ever noticed that when you compare the old series to the new that the titles are a negative reflection for each stanza?
They are also the opposite in meaning.

Show you:

Episode 1: TPM (dark name) - Ep 4: ANH (light name)

EP 2: AOTC (light name) - Ep 5: TESB (dark name)

Ep 3: ROTS (dark name) - Ep 6: ROTJ (light name)

At the end of the day it doesn't mean much but I believe it was a conscious decision on Georges behalf. (I was quite rapt when I figured it out!)

What do you think?

Sorry, but I don't see Attack Of The Clones in any way as a 'light name' as it was the series of events that led to the start of the clone wars, the dark times. Also, Return Of The Jedi was initially supposed to be Revenge Of The Jedi, but it was changed after Lucas decided that Jedi don't actually take revenge.

I've never noticed that before you've pointed it out. I think George did this on purpose.I just finished watching When Star Wars Ruled the World on VH1. It was pretty interesting. It showed behind the seens footage, and explained everything in the movies. You should try to catch it on television sometime.

Only in as much as the name, not the nature of the film.

Attack of the Clones (good guys in this episode on the march)

Empire Strikes Back (bad guys on the march)

- if you get my drift. If you don't I get that too.

I see your point. Lucas had to do something with the names of the films as to 1-4, 2-5, 3-6.

Will look out for it.

Speaking of SW & BJ, did you know that JBJ's first proper recording was for a Star Wars tribute album (when he was a teenager).

Sang a song called "Merry Christmas R2-D2".

1980 I think. I'm sure JBJ used every dispossal at his command to have every copy destroyed, much like Lucas did with the Star Wars TV Christmas special!!!

Yup. I knew that. I have the song on my computer.

Can't say I've ever heard it.

I would imagine it is lame to say the least and not to be used as a ringtone?

What film did you see? :? I saw Palpatine taking over the senate to become Emperor, I saw the creation of a clone army that led to a war, nothing 'good' :?

Redshift 06-14-2007 07:32 PM

Tell us though, could he hold a note well at that age?

I would imagine his voice to be pretty raw!

I think he means about finding the clones, which would lead up to the end of the Jedi order.

Jon's voice wasn't all that bad. The lyrics sounded very corny though.

Yeah but the Clones won the battle at then end of the film, and at that point in time Palpatine was Supreme Chancellor and not Emperor until Episode 3.

So effectively, the good guys won!

We didn't know though that these good guys would end up being bad guys until EP3.
