Hammersmith Odeon, London 1990

A discussion on the other thread prompted me to ask this, apologies if it's covered elsewhere. We all know, thanks to Access All Areas that soundboard recordings for this show exist. And of course Goin' Back on the Miracle single. But apart from stuff on Access, what other stuff has surfaced in soundboard quality?

I have a bootleg vinyl that has the Jon/Richie acoustic set on Side A:
I'm Goin' Back, Never Say Goodbye, Shooting Star, Wanted, Prayer

And part of the Electric set on the B-Side:
Wild In The Street, Blood On Blood, Seven Days, Social Disease.

Sounds like it could be from an FM Broadcast? Definitely not an audience recording.

Has anything else from this show surfaced in soundboard quality?

I've seen a few bootlegs CDs that list the whole show as Sounboard, but I'm scepital?
http://redbankbj.com/wp/?cat=394

I have the show on cassette somewhere but the quality is terrible.

Was originally broadcast on BBC Radio One in the U.K. Remember recording it to tape back in the day.

Just the tracks you listed. That was the FM broadcast they had on Radio One. Would give my left nut for the whole show in that quality.

I have more than that but I have been collecting it for years. Some of what I have came from Terri and Nige, some came from the Led Zeppelin site I am a member of and some came from FM bootlegs. Here is the SBD setlist and I show what I have missing - If anyone can fill in the blanks it would be awesome. Clearly those blanks can be filled with any of the many audience bootlegs but here I am just talking about SBD or Radio.

01 Going Back (Jon Solo)
02 Never Say Goodbye
03 Shooting Star
04 Wanted Dead Or Alive
05 Livin' On A Prayer
06 Love For Sale (Missing)
07 We All Sleep Alone (Missing)
08 It's My Life/ We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place (Missing)
09 Cadillac Man (Missing)
10 I'd Die For You
11 Wild In The Streets
12 Blood On Blood
13 The Boys Are Back In Town (Missing)
14 Bad Medicine (Missing)
15 You Keep Me Hanging On
16 Silent Night (Missing)
17 Travellin' Band (Missing)
18 Fever/I've Got The Fever
19 Seven Days
20 Social Disease
21 Train Kept On Rollin' (w/ Jimmy Page)
22 Good Golly Miss Molly
23 With A Little Help From My Friends

Thinny 07-31-2018 10:03 PM

Thanks for that Kathleen, that's really helpful !

Rdkopper 07-31-2018 11:46 PM

That's pretty much what I have too... My Keeps Me Hanging On is either a terrible soundboard or a decent audience...

You Keep Me Hanging On, I heard something about a radio broadcast of this song but I didn't think it was true..... any chance you could turn it up?

Can you buy from that site?
I too had the radio broadcast of cassette - my dad tried to get us tickets for the gig but it had sold out.
I sat and listened on radio 1 recording it

Wise decision. My favorite bootleg of any band / all time! Have two copies. Most of the audience sources run too fast...the complete soundboard is my HOLY GRAIL. They were supposed to release this but something happened....hopefully one day...

There you go, from Kerrang 274:

Just listened to their rendition of Shooting Star. Everything that defined Jon's and Richie's chemistry and uniqueness as performers is there. Nothing beats that!

Could not agree more. Their covers were sometimes better than the songs themselves. I remember hearing Bridge Over Troubled Water in the mid-nineties and being blown away. And I am a longtime fan of Simon and Garfunkel - but that cover on Lifebeat was sublime.

Of course they are (everything is), but when you drop the needle its whole different experience. Pressing's old too. Quality's perfect.

Overlooked that it was a record. Very cool

I've had this exact same one since the early 90s and on the pressing that I have the sound quilaity is excellent!

rokuli 09-08-2018 12:54 PM

There's a rumour going on that the whole show was broadcasted at least once....but in trading circles there's only this partial version

I have to say that I don't believe that rumour. Happy to be wrong though.

Rdkopper 09-08-2018 07:33 PM

I don't believe anything about these underground trading circles... I think what's out is what's out...

More so, all these people who claim to be former fans who have all this stuff and want to give it all away yet nothing ever surfaces... All Bullshit...

If those people wanted to give it away, they would just do it... They would create a YouTube channel and just post it... or find a current fan it do it for them... So the next time one comes out and 'verbally' states they are going to start giving away all their rarities, just know they are full of shit...

WhamATC 09-08-2018 09:55 PM

I am sure there's more "hidden", unreleased, etc fan footage than we know of or have ever seen/heard. (The page before this one, check what Rdkopper said)

bonjovi90 09-09-2018 04:11 PM

There's a lot more out there than we can ever guess in terms of recordings. I'd say that probably up to around 90% of all shows since the SWW/NJ era have been bootlegged as at least either audio or video and about a quarter of it is available at best.
And underground trading circles do (or did) exist in one way or the other. Otherwise it's not to explain how the Pro Shot of Yokohama 1991 or the uncut audios of the "An Evening With" shows/rehearsals could all leak in 2013.

And about the rumour of Hammersmith having had a full radio broadcast: That one was stirred up by a user on Youtube commenting on one of the videos that he had listened to the full show back in the day. As it turned out, he didn't know that it had been actually a full-length set and only assumed (due to the obscure track choices) that it had been sort of a special/promo gig with a just a few tracks having been played.

YOVANAfromPeru 09-09-2018 10:38 PM

What exactly is a leak for you?
I mean I remember the What Do You Got? "Alternative Version" was directly posted from Universal

Something that became available and not being posted by e.g. Universal like that version of What Do You Got.
Like the Pro Shot videos of Buffalo 1993 or Yokohama that have been all over Youtube. Supposedly, Alec sold those to fans after his departure from the band from his personal archives and at some point fans gave those videos to other fans, uploaded it to Youtube etc.
Or the rehearsals from 1992. No way they were officially uploaded. I rather think someone working close to the band at that time had these and gave them away at some point. Or they were stored in the MTV archives. Stuff like that happens all the time, but it truly has been a while since something interesting had shown up.

The acoustic set is amazing
THe other stuff is routine really but nice to hear JBJ singing live like he has no chance of doing now.

I'm not a big fan of acoustic songs in general so I guess that's why the show is just decent for me.

But only the first 6 songs are acoustic...

The rest is a full on electric show!
