New Jersey to be played in 2018?

Well it's the 30th anniversary of New Jersey in 2018 and in the same way U2 are touring and playing The Joshua Tree could we see Bon Jovi attempt it in Europe? Seems a long shot I'll admit but with the deluxe release of New Jersey a couple of years back it is seen as a very important album. There are of course two big issues with this... the first being Jon's vocal condition and the second not wanting to visit a time period without Richie being present. It would be difficult but not impossible. If it were to happen would you be happy with something like this:

Lay Your Hands On Me
Bad Medicine
Born To Be My Baby
Living In Sin
Blood On Blood
Homebound Train
Wild Is The Wind
Ride Cowboy Ride
Stick To Your Guns
I'll Be There For You
99 In The Shade
Love For Sale

This House Is Not For Sale
You Give Love A Bad Name
Lost Highway
Roller Coaster
We Weren't Born To Follow
I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
We Got It Goin On
Who Says You Can't Go Home
It's My Life
God Bless This Mess
Have A Nice Day
Keep The Faith

Encore :

Wanted Dead Or Alive
Livin On A Prayer

With Jon's voice I just don't see it happening. Even if it did, with a different guitar player I don't know how interested I'd be.

We have a better shot of the band replaying Lost Highway in its entirety for its 10th this tour.

Oh shit! What did I just do??!!!??!!

bonjovi90 03-20-2017 11:32 PM

Slippery When Wet wasn't played in its entirety in 2011 when it had its 25th anniversary, Richie still was on board and Jon could've pulled it off vocally. So I can't see it happening with NJ either...

Please don't ever mention this again.

Would be awesome, but I think there's a snowball's chance in hell of it happening. It would be the very definition of going out as a nostalgia act that Jon will never do.

Sometimes it's worth listening to what the fans want though or just acknowledging that you have toured the same states/countries for many years so just give something different. I know it won't happen but if love to be proven wrong along with a returning Mr Sambora and Phil X can stay too. No room for Mr Shanks.

Exactly. And plus, New Jersey is not even an iconic enough album where substantial amount of additional tickets would get sold, like it would've with SWW or like it will with Joshua Tree.

But then again, this is the same person that suggested that these THINFS tour setlists are missing The Distance, so...

New Jersey is big enough. Ill be there for you and bad medicine are huge songs.

Also - forgive me if im wrong, but is there anything more challenging vocally from that album that they don't already perform already, ie. Ill be there for you, bad medicine.

99 in the shade is the only song I can see Jon not only hating, but struggling to sing.

Are you serious ? Love for sale is the ONLY one he could pull off now ....

It is certainly a big enough album full of hits

Bad Medicine
I'll Be There For You
Born To Be My Baby
Living In Sin
Lay Your Hands On Me

Plus songs like Blood On Blood, Homebound Train, Wild Is The Wind...

I've seen this band many times over the last 20 years and just want something different.

Doesn't New Jersey hold a record for having the most Top 10 singles off a hard rock album?

They didn't do it for SWW, so they're not going to do it for New Jersey.

It produced five Billboard Hot 100 top ten hits, the most top ten hits to date for any hard rock/glam metal album, including "Bad Medicine" and "I'll Be There for You", which both reached No. 1. The album was certified 7x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album also debuted at No. 1 in the UK and was the band's first UK No. 1 album. New Jersey was released by the Soviet state-owned record company "Melodiya", being the first American album ever released in USSR.

As I stated it is a very important album.

Captain_jovi 03-21-2017 12:53 PM

It's an important album but if they didn't do it with Slippery, I just don't see them doing it with NJ.

Faceman 03-21-2017 03:15 PM

There were so many opportunities to play certain albums in its entirety and except Lost Highway during its own tour they haven't done it at all.
So I don't see why they should start doing it now without Richie and without Jon's voice.

Captain_jovi 03-21-2017 03:46 PM

They came very close to doing it in full in 2001 at a random city in the US.

Faceman 03-21-2017 03:53 PM

You think of Grand Rapids!?
Well, Born To Be My Baby, Wild Is The Wind, Living In Sin, Homebound Train, Bad Medicine and Blood On Blood in one show (and not during the NJ tour) was absolutely awesome. But I wouldn't call it getting close playing the album in its entirety.

Maybe saying most of it was lofty, no, but at that point three of those weren't done too much post 2000. Considering they were doing Lay your hands, I'll be there for you and Love for Sale all during that leg of the tour in that period of time I should say they came close to KNOWING how to play most of it.

DryCounty 03-21-2017 04:45 PM

If they were ever gonna do a full album night of either SWW or NJ it was during the O2 shows in 2010. Jon even planted the seed for the idea prior to the tour but it never came to be.
I actually genuinely believed they were gonna do it. They only had to rehearse Without Love and Social Disease and they had a SWW night. Really a missed opportunity as Jon's voice really could have done it back then.

bwehehehe 03-22-2017 04:50 AM

I could imagine Phil X playing Homebound Train. And that's it.

rokuli 03-22-2017 07:59 AM

Jon doesnt wanna dwell in the past. He wants to be taken as significant current day song writer.

This alone prevents any "anniversary tours".

And its a shame. Everyone does them these days.

But even if Jon doesnt admit it, Slippery + New Jersey are the most memorable albums of classic Jovi.
