Green Day's Awesome as F**k

If you want a proper live album, this is how you do it folks. Best live album I think I've ever heard.

I'm dying to pick this up over the weekend, as the album sounds fabulous.
That said the DVD's tracklisting and show-choice is still disappointing.

Yeah, but the crowd is decent for Japan. Also, I love the tracklisting on both the DVD and the CD. Can't believe they included Letterbomb! and Going to Pasalacqua and Christie Road!

wolffex 03-24-2011 03:17 AM

you forgot to add Metallica's 'Live Shit Binge & Purge' on that list, probably the best metal boxset ever released.

Also it's a shame there is no Toronto footage on the new green day dvd, which really truly sucks cause they played there for over 3.5 hours, I was there live on august 18th and recorded the audio. I guess they didn't include that because Billy Joe cut his hair and dyed it blonde? shame though cause it was probably the longest show they played

It's not so much the tracks that they chose. It just pisses me off that with all the tremendous setlists and shows they played in 09 and 10, that the live DVD is only 17 songs (18 with the bonus track.)

This is true. Still a worth performance. They never really had any "off nights" from the bootlegs I've heard. But I don't think Billy Joe has a vagina like Jon and pouts on stage when things don't go his way. :D

ticos_stick 03-24-2011 01:35 PM

Saw them in 2005. Good show.

It's strange how they went from punk to MOR so quickly though. I remember seeing a show around 2000, some people in the crowd got their lighters out during Good Riddance. Billy Joe said "put those ****ing lighters away, we're not Bon Jovi"

A few years later and he's encouraging it.

steel_horse75 03-24-2011 01:59 PM

seen Green Day 3 times 1995 (Brixton), 2005 (MK Bowl) & 2009 (Wembley Arena)

Very good although they had only released Dookie in 95 and the gig went on for about 30 mins.

They can play 40 odd song as most only last 2 minutes!

Great live band though.

I know a lot of my friends who say so about Green Day Live ... GD is better than Jovi ...
I love that band but never saw them live simply because they cancelled their shows in france a few years back (and I didn't get a refund by the way ) ..this is the kind of thing that makes you react COLD afterwards...But I know I am the one missing a great show if I don't go
42 songs and 4 hours .. that is impressive !

asok80 03-24-2011 07:00 PM

Saw them live last summer and they blew me away! Totally awesome live.

runaway83 03-24-2011 09:28 PM

Saw them in Nov 2009. I've hardly ever seen a front-man 'heating up the crowd' with such energy. People literally didn't dare to sit down during the whole show. And that means a lot, especially in a country where most concertgoers are known for reservation and inactivity... The show was simply awesome!! I'd go see them again at any time.

By the way, I think Billie Joe Armstrong's also a brilliant songwriter.

hah are you kidding me? Jesus of Suburbia is 10 minutes long, and the songs between the new 2 albums average 4 minutes a song. They actually don't have many songs under 3 minutes... so dunno what your talking about there.

Oh dear. New trendy fan alert.
Got the first 5 albums? by that I mean Kerplunk and 39/smooth- as well as Dookie plus the next 3?

Only from American Idiot did the songs get longer.

Apology accepted.

Ehem... Have you seen the songs live? King For A Day turns a 3 min song to a 5 minute song. Know Your Enemy goes from 3 minutes to 5. East Jesus Nowhere goes from 5 to 7 minutes. Hitchin A Ride goes from a 2.5 minute song to an almost 5 minute song. Minority goes from 2.5 minute to a 5 minute song.

The songs they play are sometimes doubled in length.

Although you were right about the song length. My bad, I never really looked at it and didn't realize they were so short in studio.

I wasn't disagree with you about the song lengths, I just bring up Warning because I happen to love that record. It's my second favorite Green Day album (behind AI), and I hate how it gets ignored. And before you ask, I've been a fan for about 4-5 years before American Idiot came out.

I dislike Warning the most. I only like about 4 on there.

Same for me. Manc in 09 Halloween!! Manc June 10 and Wembley June 10. Both the Manc gigs we were rigjht at the front, Wembley i took my elsest and was in the gods.

They are amazing live, fun to watch and their energy is projected into the crowd.... Not to mention we got treated with the Foxboro Hot Tubs in Manc 09!

Another good band to see live ( i keep saying this!!) Is Bowling For Soup. They are just comedy on stage!

Agreed!!!

Why is everyone so down on Warning, it's on of my fave albums, i mean come on Blood, Sex and Booze followed up by Misery which i think has a fantastic storyline to it.

But I guess this is what makes a band good. Because if we all loved or hated a certain album then they wouldn't be so sucessful. There has to be variety!
