Jons Oxford Speech

Hey i was just wondering if anyone out there would be kind enough to point me in the right direction of a good review or summary of what Jon spoke about in his talk at Oxford Uni a few years back? I'd be really interested... I noticed that Becky here on the board has a quote from it as her signature, so if your out there id appreciate some info! :)

Was Jon invited to give his talk ? if so, thatz quite an honour..only a few people have done something like that in the past.. a certain Mr Jackson for instance!

anyway, hope somebody can help me!

p.s
3 days to Dublin!!!!!

There are articles about his appearance there (in addition to the whole speech) on my website in the Articles section. You can take the link at the bottom of my post if you want to see those articles.

don't know why he agreed to do a talk there to a load of upper class twats

tomorrow is Minnie Driver and Matthew Perry, and Friday is Patrick Stewart

I never read that speach in full before. Especially liked the last paragraph

Don't you think that it's a bit hypocritical that he got to speak at Oxford and yet he never even WENT to college? I find that very ironic.

letitrock 06-19-2003 01:01 AM

no i don't

because neither did many of the speakers here

i find it "silly" that he did a talk and gave away hundreds of free tickets to people who like to spend £30 on bottles of wine or champagne

Jon has insight to life experience that one could never get from college. He has seen the world and been educated in a way that most college-goers will never have the opportunity to learn. There are things he could give the students that textbooks never could. I went to college for 7 years and most of that "knowledge" is pretty useless. All it did was get me qualified for a specialized job. It didn't teach me about life and the world.
