80's Rock Bands

Hi everybody!

I just wanted to asked if any of you know melodic 80's rock bands such as Bon Jovi, Survivor and all that stuff... Other than Def Leppard, Van Halen, Whitesnake, Europe, Journey and so on, you know. I was looking for something "less known" or famous.

I love those 80's kind of songs with electric guitar and synth. The ones you may hear in low rated movies xd.

Thanks in advance!

Check out Little Angels-one of my favourite bands :D Their début album Don't Pray For Me may be exactly what you are looking for.....

I love Gorky Park, and particularly this song called Bang:

It was featured in the Access All Areas video. Great old Russian band

Danger Danger fit into the category you describe. Their last album Revolve was awesome.

lukather1 09-05-2012 02:19 AM

You should check out Dann Huff's band, "Giant", from the late 80's-early 90's. They are the real deal.

Becky 09-05-2012 02:57 AM

They're not exactly "less known" but Warrant. I second the rec for Gorky Park too.

GabrielC 09-05-2012 05:53 AM

Check out Rock City Angels. Awesome band.

L.S. Bumble Bee 09-05-2012 12:49 PM

About 2 years too late to be considered an 80s band, but Blue Tears. Bon Jovi meets Def Leppard. Awesomeness.

DevilsSon 09-05-2012 01:00 PM

Bad English and Mr. Big!

sammy645 09-05-2012 01:08 PM

Crowded House. Not exactly like Bon Jovi and the like but worth giving a try. I would suggest their debut album for 80s, although their 90s stuff is better IMO

You should check out their album Cockroach ... it's amazing!

I really enjoy Firehouse. Could give them a go, although I think theyre somewhat 'well known'.

Wig Wam are a modern band who sound exactly like theyre out of the 80's glam metal scene... although theyre quite a joke. Worth I try though. Might find one or two gems.

peewee 09-05-2012 03:58 PM

Thanks to all and any of you!!

Wow that was amazing. Got lots of new stuff now. By the way, for the one who mentioned "Little Angels", there's a song called "Tired of Waiting" that's very reminiscent (the intro) to "Let it Rock" by BJ and the singer says "Sounds like bown Jowvyyy".

To make it more accurate, I found a song which is a perfect example of the kind of band I'm looking for:

Although technically not an 80s band, Nelson is great.

Apart from the already mentioned:
Winger, KISS(!), Scorpions, Rainbow, Gun, Cinderella, LA Guns, White Lion, Slaughter, Twisted Sister (!), Tesla, W.A.S.P., Extreme, Hanoi Rocks, David Lee Roth solo band, Thunder (!), Rockhead (Bob Rock's band), etc.

New bands worth a try:
Steel Panther and Reckless Love

Steel Panther once performed Runaway with Dave on the keyboards.

Not sure about the rest but the last 2 are must have albums in any melodic rockers collection. Toby Hithcocks album was on constant play til I got Bleed & Scream. Funny thing is the same bloke wrote both albums,Erik Martenson(sp?) and he is someone JBJ needs to meet up with. If he ever does then JBJ can truly say " We,re gonna record a big rock album!"

Listening to what you like re the Dalton track theres a band formed a couple of years ago called Houston who play exactly that sort of music but with a less "dated" feel to it.
Truth Slips:Pride:
Or Vega, more modern melodic rock but bloody good music, heres a snippet from there new album which sounds like it could be as good as the first on this form:
And something from the 1st album,Kiss of Life:One of a Kind:

dcj28 09-07-2012 01:19 AM

Bad English:Bad English
Aldo Nova: Twitch
Jimmy Barnes:Freight Train Heart
Michael Bolton:Fools Game/Everybodys Crazy
Paul Laine: Stick it your Ear
Brother Firetribe:Heart full of fire
Boulevard:Into the Street

The Northern Cowboy 09-07-2012 04:33 AM

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe I've seen any mention of Gotthard. =O

And these have probably been mentioned already, but:

Harem Scarem
Firehouse
Vandenberg
Little Caesar
Steelheart
Lee Aaron
Vixen
Thunder
Paul Laine
Night Ranger
Brighton Rock
Accept
Blue Murder
Helix
Hurricane
Love/Hate
....

There are tons more.

Damn Yankees :D

Panda 09-07-2012 09:36 AM

None of them. 80s was the worst years for rock bands out of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s.

Although the 10's might be worse.

Scream ( John Corabi )
Tuff
To Name just a few

Talisman would definitely work for you, or any Jeff Scott Soto solo. You will love it. Trust me. Dan Reed Network as well.

C'mon Eric with a K. The 80s was the birth of cheesy classics which gave birth to the chain of clubs in the UK called Reflex! Without 80s power ballads I would have never wooed my wife in The Reflex bar in Liverpool. (now called popworld). Ironically I strutted my stuff to You Gave Love A Bad Name, and she took pity on me and let me buy her a drink. Poor girl!

Other greats are:

Starship
Whitesnake
John Farnam (solo i know).

Eric with a K - I urgently request that you don your stuff in an 80s bar near you

The only thing that people hate about the 80s is Bon Jovi.

Because the 80s had highly acclaimed bands like U2, The Smiths, Talking Heads, The Police, R.E.M., The Stone Roses, The Cure, Metallica, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Dire Straits, The Replacements, Guns N' Roses, Jane's Addiction, New Order, Faith no More, etc etc etc..

Much better than the mid 90s-present period.

You wouldnt understand as you werent born in the 80,s and probably dont have much recollection of the 90s either. The 80,s was all about bands playing uplifting music and enjoying themselves. Then came grunge........... Miserable bastards.
