She hit her breaking point in early 2019 and retired from being mod/posting here.

No, I don't agree. If you have a black and white view of the world, you'd believe that Floyd was just a bad person - end of story. That's the sort of mindset that has made the US so dangerously polarised - everything is good or evil.

What Jon's lyric is potentially getting at is that Floyd wasn't perfect. Far from it. But was he what he was because he was conditioned that way due to the racial divide in the US. Was he born a bad person or did he become that?

I don't believe Jon has glorified him at all.

But the media wants you to think that an innocent black man was just walking down the street minding his own business and some random white cop did what he did. And that this is the real on going problem in this country...

They forget the fact that he was a career criminal and was in the process of getting arrest.

Now, on the flip side, that cop was 1000% wrong and justice needs to be served. Yes, he's a dick cop regardless if you're black or white and that man didn't deserve to die. We don't decide that. Our justice system does.

The media/democrats want this country destroyed because when they do it and succeed, it still falls under Trumps America.

This should have never been a political thing but they took every opportunity to use it to their benefit.

This is the real problem in America.

Get it.

Agree with your post up to the bolded bit. In fact, when I was talking about polarised mindsets in the US, you just illustrated it by blaming the PR spin on "the Democrats". The real problem in America and many other countries, in respect of this topic, is the systemic racism that's rife in the country.

Given the turn this thread has taken (again); I can't say I blame her. Hope she's doing well.

Please, help me out there:

God damn those 8 long minutes
Lying face down in cuffs on the ground
Bystanders pleaded for mercy
As one cop shoved a kid in the crowd
When did a judge and a jury
Become a badge and a knee
On these streets

This verse is obviously above the death of GF. What doesn't make much sense to me is the one line. I may not fully understand the verb "shove" or the "kid" is someone totally else than GF. Or was he shoved to a some crowd? I thought he was taken out and arrested.

IIRC, one of the young men or teens in the crowd of spectators came out and started yelling at the cops; and one of the cops pushed him back into the crowd. Kinda like "Stay out of this." Someone else might have a clearer recollection.

So if efforts to keep the crowd away, a police officer must have pushed a random kid who was an onlooker

Thanks a lot!! That makes it even more complicated to interpret in my language :D on the other hand, I love going deep in the meaning of lyrics (when they're not shallow)
