Alice Cooper Live

So I'm seriously thinking about seeing one of the first rockstars I ever got into, Alice Cooper, live in November.

Just wondering, what's he like live? I watched AC Trashes The World and it rocked, but does he actually use screens? Because I don't wanna get their, find out I don't get to the front only to then find out I can't see a thing and there's not even a screen to help me out.

Um...and hey, that's my only question!

Also - WTF is it with my friends? I'm sure they all liked Alice Cooper, now that he's doing a tour they've all scattered away and left me to see him on my own. Stupid ****ers.

BeExcellent 05-25-2009 10:31 PM

Aren't the venues too small to need screens?

He's alright live, worth seeing every now and then, but won't change your life.

The theatricality of it is fun, but perhaps dilutes the impact of it as a rock show. He doesn't talk too much to the audience and his band tends to sound like session musicians.

i'm sure that guy is never off the road ...

anyway, i know he was at the BIC here in bournemouth recently, with motorhead if i'm correct? not sure whether that venue is big enough for screens.

KeepTheFaith2211 05-25-2009 11:50 PM

I'm going to see him. The arena I'm gonna be seeing him in though is very small so he may not do his theatric stuff, I know when my brother/cousin etc. went to see him a few years back he didn't do anything like that.

Dave 1986 05-26-2009 01:21 AM

I've seen him live twice in Cardiff International Arena. Neither shows had big screens, thouhg other gigs I've been to there have.

He's awesome live and usually has great support acts.

2005 tour was Twisted Sister, and 2007 was Joan Jett & The Heartbreakers and Motorhead.

Captain Walrus 05-26-2009 03:14 AM

I've been told by my girlfriend in no uncertain terms that we'll be going to see him :p Not that I mind ... I've seen him twice before (once in 2002 and once in 2005), and both times were great shows

Panda 05-26-2009 04:24 AM

I saw Alice Cooper afew months ago... must've been October or something like that.... I can't remember the date... but anyway, he's pretty good live, nothing really phenomonal, but then again, I knew like 8 songs he played. It was kind of a small venue, about 3000 people.

But I do listen to his radio show thats on every night here at 9pm I think... the classic rock radio station here gives up an hour or two every day to play his radio show. He talks about his favorite bands and such, and plays really good, solid music... not like DJ's who have to have a certain amount of different songs, and have their playlist on shuffle and don't really have a say on things. He chooses the music we listen too.... I try to listen to it whenever it's on. He also answers fan mail of the radio as well.... It's really cool to see someone connect to their audience like that, every night.

No screens. Get as close as possible.

The band is great, it's no session band, it has been with Alice for years.

W.T.F?

If I get there only to find that Alice Cooper does not get locked in a straight-jacket and then his head sliced off, I will not be happy

Yeah I know, they were pretty disappointed. :p

When my brother seen him with Motorhead and Joan Jett... though, he did all of his theatrics...2007 it must have been.

Captain Walrus 05-26-2009 01:45 PM

I don't see why he wouldn't do any of the theatrics. How small is the venue? Both times I've seen him has been in the Brighton Centre, which has a capacity of about 5000, and its been the full show

Newcastle City Hall - holds around 2,000 people.

My brother says he probably will do it but I''m just not going to get my hopes up. :p

Because you won't answer me in the other thread (don't turn a blind eye on me, kid), I'll ask here where there is no escape.

Does the Newcastle City Hall have a standing area at the front of the stage or is it completely seated? Thank you in advance :)

*puts a fist up just to scare David* Grrr.

Chica Guacamole 05-27-2009 11:18 PM

My friend went to see him a few years back at the SECC in Glasgow- she said that there was screens at that show, and also that she got squirted by fake blood by the man himself. So I'm guessing that it means it was the full show :p

Considering going to one of the shows, but my budget may not be able to strech that far- I have to start saving my money now :(

I'm still paying my parents off for the £60 Springsteen ticket and tommorow I'm gonna ask if I can borrow more money for an Alice Cooper ticket. I don't think I should ever get a credit card.

And I'm thinking about getting "blood seats" cos being squirted with blood does sound awesome! But then I'd have to get there extra early and somehow push my way to the front :/

Chica Guacamole 05-27-2009 11:26 PM

To be honest, depending on the venue, you may not have to get there super-early to get near the front. The last few gigs that I've been to at the Exhibition Centre in Aberdeen I've gotten there about an hour or so after the doors have opened and managed to get pretty near the barrier. You just have to seize oppurtunities, not drink and not be afraid to use your elbows :p

I saw Alice Cooper a few years ago at the NEC and was massively disappointed. His 'theatrics' were really poor, cheesy, and plain boring. No crowd interaction at all, and a band that looked like they'd rather be anywhere else but there. And his voice is shot.

Approach with caution.

your just a big bowl full of hapiness now, are you?

JerseyboyUK 05-28-2009 05:56 PM

I am yeah, generally. What's your point?

I wasted £35 on a terrible Alice Cooper concert, this does not make me happy.

KeepTheFaith2211 05-28-2009 07:39 PM

Oli - Newcastle City Hall has no standing area, it's all seated. The tickets me and my brothers got are the balcony. :)

Man, if I go to that venue we should meet up! What with your brother and I being so cool and all.

We'll force you to fetch us our drinks :)

Oh, I'm very persausive.

Hmm, I'm wondering whether to go and see the Coop in Newcastle, cos it's far away from my shittly lil town or go see him in Brighton which happens to be on my birthday :D

Jennifer_Always 05-31-2009 06:05 PM

Hey, I have seen Alice once so far.
It was at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2005, in Switzerland. There's the official DVD.
There were no big screens 'cause it's a small venue. But damn, Alice is awesome! You never get bored! I was attracted by everything, it's so theatral that you can only enjoy it. He's still the same, he's a real psycho, eheh ;)
That's what I love about him. He gets older like everyone, but he doesn't change. He keeps on touring for his fans.
And yeah, the musicians have been playing with him for years. Eric Singer is the drummer, also known as the KISS one! :D
Chuck Garric is the bassist, he's really cool and funny! Eric and Chuck have their own band with John Corabi and Bruce Kulick, it's called ESP. They play some Alice Cooper songs too.

I will see Alice this summer again, at the same festival. It will be great!

Alice is always worth a look,Chuck and Eric s are excellent musicians,ESP do indeed rock i saw them in Germany earlier this year.I think alice will bring the theatrics with him,Motley played Manc Apollo and they had a fair bit of pyro and stage effects.
This is a great chance to see Coop play the more intimate venues...Dont miss it.

Jennifer_Always 05-31-2009 06:50 PM

True!
Intimate venues are, according to me, the best! You feel so close to the show and to the artists.
I have seen ESP twice and it was perfect! They are having fun between them too, that's quite cool ;)

Goldsausage 05-31-2009 09:09 PM

I got a ticket to see the Coopmiester at Newcastle :D

And I'm in the 5th row from the front

I'm also thinking about seeing him in Brighton too, as it's on my birthday but I'll wait a while in case plans change.

Oh and by the way David, I think I'm gonna stay in Newcastle for the weekend, so I'll find your house and dress it in toilet roll.

Thanks :D

And although I'm very, very happy to FINALLY be near the front at a damn gig - I actually had front row tickets, but I thought they were balcony tickets so I kept refreshing and refreshing until I got what I thought were better tickets :(

Goldsausage 11-27-2009 10:51 AM

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT.

Though I'm not too excited at the moment because I'm going through hell trying to book a decent ticket to see Rod Stewart on Ticketmaster.

Chica Guacamole 11-29-2009 05:00 PM

So...how was it?

*settles down for the long wait for review* :p

Lmao I just realised how stupid that looks. I'm not seeing Rod Stewart on ticketmaster, I'm hopefully seeing him at the 02 Arena.

Chica, it was mindblowingly amazing. Second best gig I've ever attened, second only to Bruce!

Review coming...shortly...I think.

KeepTheFaith2211 11-30-2009 08:02 PM

Yes it was very good. The man is fantastic and not only his stage show but singing and overall performance is great. :)

Better than Oli's review and only wrote it in fourteen seconds!

Goldsausage 11-30-2009 09:13 PM

Yeah but my face is better than yours and my parents only made it in 14 seconds.

KeepTheFaith2211 11-30-2009 09:53 PM

Feck off, you plant.

Goldsausage 11-30-2009 10:04 PM

I like the reference to Resident Evil. Good one. :)
