Best Bon Jovi Tribute?

Hi Guys, New to this forum... massive BJ Fan

Given the lack of opportunities to see BJ live - I have watched a few tributes trying to get my fix!

One band that has stood out for me was Bon Jovi Forever - who are one of the lesser known tribs doing the UK circuit.

Checkout this vid the guys have recently been posting from a gig I attended in Newcastle in December last year ..... look and sound amazing, I know many of you hardcore fans have seen plenty of tribs - how do these fair vs other more established tribs?

https://youtu.be/jsYTp4v1Qa0

Look forward to hearing you comments ..... good and bad, plus recommendations on who else to look out for

Cheers!

Bounce (Germany) and SOMA (Chile).

bonjocky 05-20-2018 12:41 PM

How does Bon Jovi Forever compare to Bounce?

Bounce and SOMA are the best ones for me.

The best Bon Jovi cover band there has ever been was Kon Chauvi. Unfortunately, they had to retire due to health issues of the lead singer 10 years ago.

What I personally appreciate about Bounce (besides Olli singing the crap out of all those songs and listening a lot to my tips ) is that they are willing to take it further - something that I would've liked BJ to do at some point in the past. They've done two symphonic rock nights where they had re-arranged and written the music for a complete orchestra and played with them (they'll only do one more though).
These two have been breathtaking experiences to witness!

In The uk, The Bon Jovi Experience are one of the better ones that I have seen, and have the seal of aproval from Jon, who has played with them! -

The Bon Jovi Experience and Jon Bon Jovi at The HRC - London - YouTube

These guys are not bad, but I hate Tony’s (the ”Jon” of the band) vibrato, and they often leave many big hits out of their sets (for example, Bad Medicine and sometimes even Wanted!).

That said, I don’t think there’s anyone who looks more like Jon than Tony does. The look is so close it’s scary - it supposedly once fooled even JBJ himself, who had to check a picture of Tony with a friend to make sure it wasn’t his own one! :D

WOW, what a voice by singer. Listening Dyin and it's almost the same as studio recording. No doubt this was the best cover band!

"Kon Chauvi? I know them. They cover us note-by-note. They're f***ing good - better than us." Jon Bon Jovi, June 1998

That With A Little Help as well, my God...

I still think Bounce is better, but these guys were f*cking great - especially the singer.

Really? Even Bounce?

https://youtu.be/TKPmgNNJzX8 (Bed Of Roses)

https://youtu.be/G4igUaoiZMY (I'd Die For You - acoustic)

https://youtu.be/8yo5GlLMwic (Something To Believe In)

Close your eyes and it could be the JBJ of 1992-95 singing. Plus, as Dominik mentioned, the arrangements with the orchestra are really cool.

steel_horse75 05-23-2018 01:59 PM

my thing with tributes is.........if youre good enough to play the songs the original artists wrote then why not write your own?

Why? At least this way we still have a chance to hear the songs live the way they were supposed to sound. And I think it's an honor for a band when many tribute acts arise.

Fair point and I can only answer in Bounce's case: for them it's just a way of having fun on weekends and party with a lot of people. They all follow different day jobs and just want to play these shows as long as they enjoy doing so and as long as it doesn't interfere with their family lives too much.
Even though some members of them used to be in an original band prior to Bounce.

And to think this was the year where Olli really had vocal problems...
Luckily, he got them fixed.

I think we have to think about Olli's problems on a whole different level than any of Jon's ones... I mean, even with a "shot" voice he sounds better than Jon has ever done since probably the KTF tour! :D

Yeah of course. I remember having been to one rare weekend where his voice really went off (for his standards) between the gigs on Friday and Saturday and he got hoarse. Yet people kept wondering how he'd even sound if this was his "off day". Thinking back, that's when his vocal problems actually started and he was singing with a rather rough voice for some time. But then again, he's never had a vocal lesson up to this day, so it's really just moaning on a very high level.

By the way, as you clearly know Olli, have you ever discussed Jon's vocal problems with him? I think he's as aware of them as all of us other diehards (as he must be one as well).

I wish Bounce came to the USA - I'd love to see them live.

They don't care about the current stuff anymore and I guess he hasn't really seen a live performance past 2011 where Bounce had gone to the concert in Dusseldorf (after I had repeatedly told them in what great shape the band was during this period) and that had pretty much been the final nail in the coffin. I think that at one point he's said that Jon just can't sing anymore these days and that it's a sad thing, but something you simply can't deny.

bonjocky 05-29-2018 06:21 PM

sorry mate, I have seen Wrong Jovi and they were terrible. The base player is a novice or is just poor. Have a look at the link to bon jovi forever and compare to Wrong Jovi.

Xavi 05-29-2018 11:49 PM

Nowadays,Bounce is the best Bon Jovi tribute band by far

rokenrola 05-30-2018 12:22 AM

playing wise for me SOMA are much better, more precise but singing wise BOUNCE singer is better.

golittleperson 05-30-2018 06:26 AM

Not a BJ tribute band but saw this on twitter - they opened one, maybe both of the MSG shows and made this to say thank you - they killed it!

I think these guys are the best I've seen in terms of recreating the whole BJ concert experience:

Holy f*ck, that "Richie" can shred... and "Jon" sounds particularly nasal! :D

That accent is brutally thick, and the tone of the singer's voice reminds me more of Gotthard's late former lead singer. Plus some of the vocal runs are stuff Jon never did, it's certainly more poser and cock rock-ish. They're all good at what they do, it's just not particularly BJ.
