Just Older
Just Older- the sex sells version had slightly different lyrics to it JBJ solo version of "Just Older", as performed during 1998 JBJ tour Baby it has been a while Do you remember me? I'm 36, I was 17 A little wild, a little green I've been up and down and in between It's been 18 years, can you believe that I'm still chasing that dream? But I ain't looking over my shoulder I like the bed I'm sleeping in Just like me it's broken in It's not old, just older Like a faded pair of torn blue jeans This skin I'm in is alright with me It's not old, just older It's good to see your face It ain't no worse for wear I know what you mean and I do care She's doing ok, seen her last year She got married and don't live too far from here Sometimes I wish that I told her... But I like the bed I'm sleeping in Just like me it's broken in It's not old, just older Like a faded pair of torn blue jeans This skin I'm in is alright with me It's not old, just older But I'm not old enough to sing those blues But I've worn a hole in the soles of these shoes You roll the dice and I call your bluff But you can't win until you're not afraid to lose Well I've got to run, you take care If you see Coach T, tell him I've cut my hair In all these years, can you believe that I'm still chasing dreams? But I ain't looking over my shoulder I like the bed I'm sleeping in Just like me it's broken in It's not old, just older Like a faded pair of torn blue jeans This skin I'm in is alright with me It's not old, just older When I look in the mirror I don't hate what I see Just a few more lines staring back at me And I'm not old, just ... |
I REALLY really prefer
"It's good to see your face It ain't no worse for wear I know what you mean and I do care She's doing ok, seen her last year She got married and don't live too far from here Sometimes I wish that I told her... " to the original lyrics. |
I guess we have a some sort of "privilage" to select what we prefer... ;)
one usually dosen't get the chance to peak in and see the first versions of things. I'm kinda glad Jon changed the first verses here- It's a bit harder to connect to a line dealing with Vietnam, and I LOVE just older, so it works better for me. Another example is the HAND demo- it's sound all messed up- cause Jon took the song and changed the lines to how we know it I personally prefer the end of the demo choures "it might save your life" |
Is there a demo call Sex Sells? Who've heard it?

I didn't like the "It might save your life" line because it just made no sense to me. WHAT might save your life? Saying have a nice day? |

standing on a ledge might save your life
as in, it takes being at the absolute end of your rope to get you going again I like that chorus better, personally. Not a lot, though. |

I liked the original vocal of the HAND chorus line better - not much different, but a bit better. Why didn't they just stick to "believe", it would have fit with the new lyrics and kept the original number of sylklables. Oh well. The "a capella" part of the original was GREAT, the new riff is simpler but catchier, and the new solo is also better, even though a Bad Name-ish, classical 80s run-up of the scales at the end would have truely been the cream on the top of it.
And if only they'd combined the best of the two songs into one ultimate version... oh well. |
