One of the best shows I've been too, in all honesty. Kelly's voice live is superb and the band are so tight and sound brilliant. Made me want to try and get tickets for Wrexham.

I've seen them several times now and always thought they put on a great show. However, their latest album isn't very good and their show in Amsterdam was honestly one of the most boring concerts I've ever been to. It honestly blew me away how they could honestly think with a back catalogue like theirs they were able to create such a weak setlist with absolutely no flow. I spoke to several fans who said it was a poor show as well, and the amount of British people flying over to see them in Holland seems to decrease as well with every subsequent tour.

I did notice how, once they made it back to the U.K. they mixed it up quite a bit and ditched a bit of the slow and new stuff. That said, I can kind of understand all those Stereophonics fans saying how they've lost quite a bit of their edge which is a real shame as I liked every album of theirs, even the ones that are disliked by the majority of fans out there. Their shows just have too many slow songs now. Half of what they've released in the last 10 years would work well in theaters, but just falls flat in arena's and stadiums. It's as if Kelly tries to cater towards a completely different audience nowadays.

Sorry, just rambling a bit, I guess. I don't intend to rain on your parade as I'm quite sure you had a great time. It's just they were one of the bands I looked forward to seeing the most this year yet disappointed me more than anything else I've seen.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

No problem with your opinion.

This was my first time and I found it extremely enjoyable. I didn't know two or three songs, not going to lie. But the crowd and band seemed really up for the show.

Ollie said the show he went too a few days before had the worst crowd he'd seen. I seen them on a Saturday night in a small arena so maybe that helped too.

I'm not a fan of the new album. I LOVE Keep The Village Alive!!

The official Stereophonics topic

The new album is not as good by KTVA and GOTT standards.
Oddly enough when I saw them the other week, on the way home, I was thinking I wonder what their die hards thought of it as I would when leaving a Jovi show.
I love Stereophonics first two albums but don’t like anything else until Dakota then from there the albums have got better again.

I previously saw them live in 2005 in London and it was great as I think the show was aimed towards to older fans. They played a couple of b-sides including Carrot cake and wine which rocked the ceiling off.

Aloha !

The American "tour" has just been announced, I'm a bit surprised these indie rock bands can't get a foot on the ground over there while they've become a steady act over here as. Then again, plenty of American indie bands aren't very big here either, no idea why that's not the case either. But anyway.

Many fans from the first hour have stopped seeing them exactly because of the ballad overkill nowadays, just like there's not many Bon Jovi die hards from the eighties anymore either. The JEEP album was massive in Europe and I've a feeling they're merely catering towards an audience that feels Coldplay is a rock band, if you know what I mean?

Stereophonics used to be a band that, like you said, rocked the ceiling off. Nowadays though, half of their set is really mid-tempo. The show I saw had a set of which half was from the last 3 albums. It just didn't work. For every punky, upbeat rocker there was either a new song, or a ballad.

I also feel it's more the Kelly Jones show nowadays. Him on the piano, him doing (very mediocre) guitar solo's, him doing the rock star pose... If the songs were great that'd be fine, but stuff like All In One Night and White Lies are really mediocre songs, and Sunny has a dreadful guitar outro which made me embarassed as it sounds like Bobby Bandiera doing the solo for Dry County.

That's not to say I don't like the new stuff, but after Keep Calm & Carry On the albums contain a few stinkers, and it's a shame they're playing those as opposed to the better songs, even though the better songs are album tracks, and not really songs that work well when playing them live. I really like Graffiti On The Train and Keep The Village Alive, but their last album does nothing to me. It feels like a collection of b-sides, as if the river's run dry. I also think they need a fresh producer because frankly, the last 4 records could all have been from the same sessions. Like I said, they just need to make up their mind a bit as to what band they are nowadays as the atmospheric stuff doesn't work well in the venues they're playing over here. It's a real shame, because their punky stuff still brings down the house whenever they play it.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

lol, how bad you are, on the other hand, my masochistic side would like to hear Bobby try to play the dry county solo.
:-D

A question, have they ever launch the song Jayne in an electric version of studio recording?

I second that.

I'm a casual Stereophonics fan and I consider White Lies to be one of their best and I have listened to every album at least once!

While we're on the subject, I listened to Scream Above The Sounds yesterday and it's as forgettable as I remember it being after release. Very disappointing after a string of strong albums.

I have to agree. I couldn't wait to hear it and then it was instantly forgettable. Live, however, they are a good band to see. The most recent show I saw was last fall and it was a promo show before the album release.

Oh puh-leaaase. It's Stereophonics trying to be nowadays Bon Jovi. It honestly sounds like a weaker clone of Superman Tonight but lacks whatever punch said song has. There's just no way it should be on every Stereophonics setlist out there when pretty much everything they released before Keep The Village Alive is better than this shite song. As a matter of fact, half of Keep the Village Alive is rather meh. Sonny, White Lies, My Hero, Song for the Summer... They all sound like b-sides.

But 'ey, it's good you're respecting my opinion. :D

White Lies (unfortunately) hasn't been played for a good month or two. Well, it hadn't up until my show and a couple more after anyway.

Taken A Tumble didn't get played either which was a shock.
