I keep going back to that question on the Hall Of Fame night - Something like will you return? (Or maybe it was will you be involved with the next record?) and that super cringe in front of all the band answer from Richie ... "If he asks me" ... Should tell you everything haha

Dragonforce's lead guitar player praising Richie:

Quote:

I think sometimes guitar players get a bit obsessive about notes. They get so into it. And I was like that at one point in my life, when I was learning to play the guitar. I would not listen to any music that hasn't got guitar solos, because we're just big nerds and we want to do this, and there's nothing out there except this. You concentrate on a one track mind.

And as you play more guitar, you learn about more things. It's just beyond the notes. (...) I think the way I look at it is now, you look at the guitar, the 'multiple dimensional' kind of thing. There is you playing the notes, and there is the projection out there. You've got to look at it from a third-person point of view, and how you're playing. (...)

You go to a Bon Jovi concert, and I remember when Richie Sambora was in Bon Jovi, those notes, those solos, everyone was singing in the stadium. They're singing the solos, man. Richie Sambora is actually one of the guitar players that got me into wanting to play solos, because they're so melodic, and it's got so much great feeling on it.

And then at the same time, these other players like Kurt Cobain, they project the song, what they're doing really inspires people and a whole generation of players. So, it's not just about those single notes and 'Is it sitting on that key? Or is that that?' It is really beyond that. So, you learn, and I learned more about that.

Richie was the guitar player in the biggest band in the world, now he dresses up as a potato and sings karaoke.

They have given plenty of props to Bon Jovi over the years. Sam Totman often described Bon Jovi as an influence and welcomed descriptions such as "Bon Jovi on speed". Herman Li was a proper fan coming up, and even as far back as their first album was calling Sambora one of his influences. ZP Theart is a full Bon Jovi fan and the band was/is his favourite.

I have found the European power metal scene is much less shy to talk about Bon Jovi as a direct influence. Perhaps because that type of music leans into cheese. Tobi Sammet from Edguy/Avantasia and Battle Beast are two off the top of my head who like Bon Jovi.

You've made reference to this a few times. Personally, I don't see the problem. I really enjoyed it. I knew from the first performance it was Richie and he sounded great and looked like he was having a lot of fun. It was also great exposure of him and a great way to showcase his voice. I thought he complately killed it on Hallelujah. Now, the fact he didn't capitalise on that, that's another story...don't get me started on that.

By why is Richie doing it any worse than Bret Michaels, Chris Daughtry, Justin Hawkins, Dee Snider, Sebastian Back or any of the others that have done it!? It's fun Saturday night TV, that's all....It was certainly nice to have something fun and positive to talk about on here for a change!
