How many shows do you think they will announce in order for this sold album strategy to work? and when would these shows be?

We will see if Bon Jovi repeats debut at number 1 on the billboard. In any case, I'm sure I would put it inside the top 5.

They would have to announce the next tour and put tickets on sale by October 8th in order to take advantage of it before it goes away and with the state of live music and the pandemic, I just don't see that happening.

Without this I still see them debuting in the top 5 and then falling off fast so no real changes.

I ask, can they now announce dates and put them on sale, for a tour that would start in spring or summer next year?

They probably COULD, yeah. But it'd be a terrible idea at this point. With rescheduled dates for the fall this year being moved to Fall of next year there's still no ideas of what the numbers will look like and they cancelled the previous tour so fans would be able to have access to the refunds, I don't see them putting a new tour on sale now for next summer specifically for the bragging rights of a number 1 album, I'd have to think they know they're boned sales-wise and will look into a different tactic. I hope.

Everyone who's bought tickets for these shows has done it online. They're all registered. All Ticketmaster has to do is send an e-mail with a voucher or something. People were promised an album if they bought a ticket. They bought the ticket, if the organizer then cancels the show they're still supposed to get the album.

Let's say you buy a new phone and get a free VR Headset with it. The phone doesn't work and the phone company gives you a refund. You won't have to send the VR Headset back either.

To make things even more complicated; let's say you get a free concert ticket if you buy the album. You don't give a shit for that album but wind up buying it anyway to get that free concert ticket. Then the show gets cancelled.

Depending on what laws work where you might be entitled to a refund on your purchase because the basics of the deal have changed. If the phone company can't deliver the VR headset it'd work the same way and you'd be entitled to a refund as well.

But surely if everyone has been refunded no one has paid for a ticket and therefore no one has paid for the album. The record company aren't going to send out the CDs for Free, even for a chart placing, and I'm pretty sure that if the CDs are supplied for Free then it's classed as promotional use and can also not be counted for the charts. With the ticket bundle the price of CD is incorporated into the ticket price.

Or maybe I'm missing something?

What they could so is email everyone that had a ticket with a link to buy the album at a reduced price?

That SHOULD work yeah, but I can't see enough people taking advantage of that to make too much of a dent on the charts.

Yeah, true, but that's probably the only option they have with regards to the people that had tickets. Really interested to see where this one charts.

Same. It will be the first time we can see what the fanbase ACTUALLY looks like without essentially double dipping. It could be pretty humbling.

Agree.
If they paid $100 for ticket and album and got refunded $100 they won’t get an album as it means they’ve got one for free.

If I understood the article correctly, Billboard won't be approving any new bundle deals. So even if Jon were to announce new dates, and start selling tickets today, they wouldn't be counted.

It looks like only existing offers, i.e., those that had already been approved before the decision was made, will be allowed to count ticket and/or merch bundles towards chart sales. And of those existing offers, only the sales prior to Oct 8 can be included.

That might explain why Billboard yanked the first report, and changed the Oct 2 date to TBA so fast. If artists had existing approved deals in place, with the understanding that an Oct 2 release would be within the parameters, they probably went through the roof when they read that only records released prior to Oct 2 would be under the old guidelines. Especially if some of them had moved up previously announced release dates, like Jon did, perhaps just to get in under the wire.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see why Jon (or the label) would change a date that had already been moved out from May 15 to Oct 30, just to pull the release in by less than a month, unless there was some perceived benefit. Especially when the Oct 30 date dovetailed perfectly with the 2020 elections. If the date was changed, knowing that cancellation refunds would nullify those sales, it would make even less sense.
