Real Life: good or bad?
Real Life from 1999. I don't mind this song and the sound is certainly different from what was finally released as the album Crush in 2000.
What do you think... good or bad. Is this song criminally forgotten or should it never see the light of day again? Never played live... |
I love it!
|
It's a perfect soundtrack song for a B rated movie.
The song is enjoyable but nothing to go jumping through hoops for. Its better than Mr Big Time |

Awesome song, and the boxset version is actually better than the original, in my opinion.
|
I always liked it. I prefer the original version, though.
|
I loved it when I first heard it. Then liked it. Then Freaking fell in love with it again when I heard the box set version, now I'm back to liking it. So I'm always positive about the song....
|
I love this Song :D
I know 3 or 4 versions of it ans I like them all. In my opinion the Radio edit is the best, well I dont know if its a radio edit but they played it a few times on the radio here:o |
Excellent song. Always liked it and probably always will.
Shame it's been completely forgotten about by the band. Would love for them to play it live just once. |
Itīs got many of the things a good song must have: intelligent lyrics, good harmony, and good sound.
Crush coulda, shoulda been in the vein of this song; such a pity for Davidīs injury on his fingers because it put off "Sex Sells" more than one year, enough time for Bruce Fairbairnīs passing away, and ... Itīs not what I think, in fact I like many other Jovi songs more than this one, itīs just a fact that this is one of their 3 to 5 best songs in the last 15 years. A pity it was a song for a film and with Warner bhind... |

Sex Sells was supposed to be Jon's third solo album and Dave's finger had nothing to do with any type of delay. As its proven today with Richie and Tico, Jon doesn't delay anything. He'll get a fill in. Dave's finger kept him out of video so Jon replaced him a cardboard cut-out of himself. The song is decent but it repeat "This Is Real" way too much. |
Well it kept him out of the song recording too, not just the video. I agree though, a lot more went into the delaying of the album than his finger injury but I'm sure it had a part to do with it. I know he was supposed to play on Undiscovered Soul but couldn't.

He DID use Dave for a song on his solo album ;). But Undiscovered Soul was Richie's album, not Jon's.

Sex Sells was supposed to be Jons third solo album. Real Life was a song written for that album around that time. They did the song in 2 days before Jon left to film U571. That was the last song Bruce Fairbarin did with them before his passing. If there was a delay, it was because of that We were just discussing the liner notes in DA. Check out all the musicians Jon knows who could play the keys. Richies solo albums are mainly about him taking the lead so he'll use Bon Jovi members. Jons are more about sound, so he uses outside musicians. Sex Sells was supposed to be a solo album so Dave would not be a factor. However, their producers passing would be. Just out of curiosity, what solo song did Dave play on? |

Does anyone remember when it happened? Late '98 I assume? |

When Dave cut his finger, he wrote Memphis. Richie was touring his solo album and Jon was filming U571. |

Never like it. It's one of those annoying songs that get stuck in your head. |

You don't know that Jon wouldnt replace him. They did with Alec, they used a cut out for the video which means they still moved forward and no one knew if he would ever be able to play again. So that would have ended Bon Jovi? You need to think more rational and understand the timeline better. |
Let me point this out. If Daves finger was an issue, then how did all those songs get recorded for Sex Sells? You know, all those songs on the box set and b sides?
Sex Sells was the working title for Jons second solo album. There was a listening party and everything. They were going to use that same title for Crush but instead decided to use Crush. Dave's finger had nothing to do with scrapping Sex Sells and deciding to do Crush. Nor did it have to do with any type of delay as the initial statement was made. I wish there were more people here who knew what the **** they are talking about instead of making these stupid ****ing statements and then all agreeing with each other. |

And had been said... Amen. |

Nothing was delayed. Sex Sells was completed and trashed. They started over with Crush which came out a year later. Ebin probably filled in for Dave until he was ready. End of story. If you want the facts, listen to me. If not, follow the other dopes. I'm done with this topic. |
It's a good song. Nothing amazing but certainly not underwhelming or anything.

I love it, specially the single version!

Just one thing: wasnīt the supposed-to-be third Jonīs solo album going to be called "Retrospective" or "Introspective"? Just came to my mind  |

Great song! The lyrics, the music, the producing, everything is great! But I don't think it would be so "awesome" to hear it live. Maybe for a night or two, but not for every concert (like the Captain Crash)

He passed while Jon was filming U571. |

Anyway in that period the situation was really confused, even Jon said that he didn't know if he was going to release a solo record or do a band record. Only in the fall of '98, when he and Richie got together, became clear that Sex Sells would have been a band album. |

I am done with you. The op was, Dave's finger delayed Sex Sells. Sex Sells was Jons third album that was completed. Dave's finger had NOTHING to do with that. Even if the album was released, he still had a movie commitment to fulfill. After that they did Crush which came out in 2000. Where was the ****ing delay? |
Everything I'm posting is based off of facts.
I'm 100 percent right. Trust me |

Sense you make not. But fun I have nonetheless because you seem to be breaking your head over the smallest things here while my mastermind can handle even the most difficult subjects on here, like I have clearly proven before you was even born. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
Maybe I've been taking the way I talk to you completely wrong. I think we, as a Jovitalk community, need to remember that RDkooper is a special case and that has mental disabilities. Right. I'll talk in big, large words for you.
Hello rdbooper, how are you? Do you need someone to make another sandwich for you? Is your tummy hungry? Are you feeling a little bit cranky today? |
Oh, what the honest ****.
