Always really liked this song--does anyone know anything about it really? Was it written just for this event? Was it ever played or recorded otherwise?

I’m in the same boat as you! Absolutely love this song, but know little to nothing about it. Anyways, the lyrics and melody is so beautiful! Very underrated song

Seems like Pavarotti's people, but that's just going by the Italian-ness of the names.

They had offered a song to Jon for this event that he didn't like, so he made a counter offer to write something exclusively for it. Pavarotti's people then got involved to create the parts for Luciano. Jon said that in a press conference during that weekend.
So it was a song specifically, and only, made for this occasion, just like Heart of America in 1985.

This very much reminds me of the Blaze album. Love that side of him, and unsurprisingly, it turned out amazing!
