Jani Lane R.I.P

Jani Lane singer of Warrant died last night.

R.I.P
Its not been a good couple of years for rockers has it.

no way!

A really great singer!

Loved Warrant in the day. I Saw Red is one of the most heartbreaking ballads ever written.

Such a shame! Jani was my 2nd favorite singer in the early 90's. He was a great singer and entertainer. I met him a couple of times and he was really nice too. He'll be missed.

Never heard of her

Unfortunately he released his best record too late, at the peak of Grunge.

Had Jon written this song, it'd be a hit:

RIP

DevilsSon 08-13-2011 09:44 PM

such a shame! RIP Jani!

Never took the time to get into Warrant, but I own the greatest hits album.

Really sad though. :(

Jani Lane was such an underrated songwriter and vocalist. I think it is sad that he will forever be known as "The Cherry Pie Guy" and that will be largely known as his legacy to the music world. The reality is, this dude wrote some phenomenal tunes across his career. Ultraphobic, in my opinion, was one of the best albums of the 90's - Belly To Belly and Dog Eat Dog were killer, too. I am friggin' shattered.
Interesting tidbit - I remember reading a couple of times that the song "I Saw Red" was apparently based on Jani Lane walking in on his then partner, Bekka Bramlett, in bed with Mr Richie Sambora...
RIP Jani.

It's true regarding the song. Richie and Bekka dated and she sang background vocals on Richie's first solo CD.

When I heard about his death the other day, I was shocked. As others have said, he was very underrated and I think Cherry Pie hurt the band, more than it helped them.

Had (note the past tense) the greatest hits, and thought every song sucked.

Although it is always unfortunate when someone dies.

yomamasofat 08-15-2011 09:11 AM

RIP. He was a great songwriter.

i used to listen to a lot of Warrant in my teens, not so much in recent years but i still like a lot of their stuff. Jani was a good singer and an excellent songwriter, unfortunately he was never given the credit he deserved. he'll be missed.

sambos apprentice 08-15-2011 05:15 PM

the more you read about Richie the more you realise he's a complete knob haha

He just can't keep his dick in his pants!

Becky 08-16-2011 01:58 AM

Jani and Bekka were engaged at the time too which makes it even worse. Jani was friends with Jon though. He thanked him in the Cherry Pie album credits. Jani went to one of the LA area shows when Bon Jovi played there in '89.

Jani Lane mentions Richie Sambora in an old-ish interview on Metal Sludge:

http://www.metalsludge.tv/home/index...=363&Itemid=52

"Richie Sambora = Very talented guitarist whom I went through a very bad period with. Back when I was dating Bekka... We were gonna start a war, then called a truce, and... I think he's actually one of the more mature people in rock"

And here is a version of Jani Lane covering Lay Your Hands On Me:
