BJ's debut album

What do you think of the debut album?

It doesn't get discussed very often but I think it's a good album. The songs all have a lot of energy and the music is quite intense and well played like it is on Slippery.. Roulette is the best song on it IMO.

I still think it's their best album so far. Like I have said time and time again.......when it was released it was something fresh, kinda standing out from the crowd so to speak. I have to admit, the production isn't by any means the best it could be, but still there's no cheesiness that came with SWW....songs, well yeah there are few fillers, but so is on every jovi album. Runaway blew me away when heard it for the first time, and it still sounds fresh. For me, a recording that survives the years without sounding outdated sure must be worth something ;)

Overall, I do rate it as one of the best debut albums ever.

Keeper 05-29-2004 12:39 PM

A little outdated, but not at all bad for a debut album. I like most songs in there. I remember being "shocked" when I heard Jon "criticising" She Don't Know Me because they hadn't written it and therefore wouldn't play it anymore. I like that song :)

Scary cover though

I like the debut too. I've always been annoyed that there were only 9 songs on it - there are a couple of good Power Station demos they could have used :D
My fave songs are Shot Through The Heart, Love Lies, Burning For Love and She Don't Know Me

~saz~ 05-29-2004 02:51 PM

I like Shot Through The Heart and She Don't Know Me. It's a shame that no-one really talks about it, it 's a really great debut and better than Bounce IMO

Mr Bluesman 05-29-2004 04:16 PM

It was a decent debut. I people listen to it today and think that it isn't very good up to usual Bon Jovi standards but we should remember that this was out before the 'big' albums. It was a time where they were still trying to find the right sound for the band.

They had their sound well figured out. those so called big albums just turned them into goddamn cheesy radio-play-act :(

only thing lacking is the production. same goes for fahrenheit. NJ & SWW were all cheese soundwise.

How do you know it wasn't the other way around? The logical thing is they were really young and they could do nothing but evolve.

allmike 05-29-2004 05:36 PM

Not bat at all. I like to hear it sometimes, but doesn't hear it as much as some other albums though. :)

Donna 05-29-2004 05:47 PM

I really love it and play it quite often.

Cheesiness came with producer. I'm not sure if "they" evolved or not.

BJEveryday 05-29-2004 07:48 PM

I love that album very much, everytime I play it which is quite often I get in a great mood, songs like Shot through the heart & Come Back makes me want to dance and just feeling happy :D

Teemu 05-29-2004 08:17 PM

The album is simply fantastic. Too bad that it doesn't get much attention on the setlists :(

Some very nice guitar work, pretty good songs: Runaway, Roulette, Shot Thru The Heart and Come Back being the best. Bit of a problem in the production, and very very limited in scope... pretty much a by the numbers, straight ahead rock album. I like it, but I would say that it competes with Crush for worst studio album. But then, its when they were just getting established, so thats perfectly acceptable

Keep On Rockin'

Twister 05-30-2004 06:04 AM

Definately it's a good album... but average, compared with other BJ albums.... 7800 is quite better!!!!

I like this album a lot and listen to it quiet often :D
Get ready is the only song from there I don't like. Love Lies is probably a bit cheese, but the final part of the song is great 8)

Captain Walrus 05-31-2004 12:30 AM

Seriously, one day I'm gonna start this "Get Ready sucks" club, to show most of you the error of your ways

Keep On Rockin'
