Top 10 songs from the Box Set.

So, considering that the boxset has a very large amount of great songs I'd like to know which ones are your top 10 favourites.
Here's my list:
1- Open All Night
2- Why Aren't You Dead?
3- We Rule The Night
4- Someday Just Might Be Tonight
5- Demo version of Someday I'll Be Saturday Night
6- Starting All Over Again
7- Good Guys Don't Always Wear White
8- The Radio Saved My Life Tonight
9- Real Life
10- I Get A Rush

Faceman 08-06-2018 08:02 PM

The thread title is a little bit confusing ;)

In the order the songs appear on the box set:

01 The Radio Saved My Life Tonight
02 Someday I'll Be Saturday Night demo
03 These Arms Are Open All Night
04 Garageland
05 The One That Got Away
06 You Can Sleep While I Dream
07 Sympathy
08 Real Life
09 Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word
10 Letter To A Friend

bonjovi90 08-06-2018 08:13 PM

Also in the order that they appear on the Box Set (not the personal preference):

01 Why Aren't You Dead?
02 The Radio Saved My Life Tonight
03 Someday I'll Be Saturday Night Demo
04 Miss Fourth of July
05 These Arms Are Open All Night
06 Garageland
07 You Can Sleep While I Dream
08 Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word
09 Temptation
10 Nobody's Hero

The question is: What's your favorite songs from the box set.
Or am I misunderstanding something.

Rdkopper 08-06-2018 08:30 PM

Why is it titled top 5 but you're asking for 10?

Top 5 songs from the Box Set.

I noticed when I was looking through the tracks that there was a lot of dross on these 4 albums but credit to the band for putting it out there for us to listen to.
I’d love another one.
You can tell some were never gonna make it onto albums/singles but the tracks that did like Good guys, edge of a broken heart etc stand out a mile (probably due to extra bit of spit and polish) but I’m still amazed to this day how Radio Saved was deemed not good enough for anything. The box set version is just missing a solo due to it being a demo but stick a decent solo on and you have a top class track.
I also feel the same about Outlaws of Love. Really great track that’s never been used.

I'm not sure I can put together an overall top 10 but I agree with that Radio is far too good of a song to be on the box set and not a regular album. I personally really enjoy Last Man Standing, Last Chance Train, These Arms are Open All Night and The One That Got Away amongst others that I'm probably forgetting. I'd love to see something from the boxset be played live again but can't see it happening.

Not the box set version of Starting all Over Again though! The vocals are horrible! The B-Side version was far superior! That's why I left that off.

I agree with that.

The chorus in its original key would have killed Jon even back then.
In 2005 everybody understood why they played it in a lower key. But in 1992 with Radio being a brand new track he wouldn't have gotten away with it.

Of course they could've opted to not playing it like a couple of other songs...but therefor the song was and still is probably too good.

I wish they would've recorded a version back in the day with Jon not having a cold :D

But live it would've been the same story as with Starting All Over Again, where Jon said: "If we sang this twice on tour, we could've packed up and gone home again."

YOVANAfromPeru 08-07-2018 08:57 PM

Isn’t JBJ said something like only looney tune Bon Jovi fans are aware of these songs, he was right... lol

Although I'm very well aware of Jon stating on the DVD that 'Starting' would have killed him in a live setting vocally, I don't think that's why the song was left off...

I think the album had it's quotas for up-tempos and this song just wasn't good enough...

Even as a bside, it didn't get any of the buzz Save A Prayer got...

To me, it always felt like "Starting.." was always more in style with their earlier stuff, and they were trying to move to a more "modern" (at the time) sounds and not so obvioulsy 80s. I always thought that was why it never made it...

True... it almost came across like it was for a TV show or Movie...

In no particular order (besides #1):

Satellite (my #1 from the box set and one of my all-time favorite BJ tunes)
Breathe
The Radio Saved My Life Tonight
Garageland
Open All Night
River Runs Dry
Maybe Someday
Kidnap an Angel
Outlaws of Love
The One That Got Away

liljovi93 08-09-2018 08:39 AM

I think I must be the only one who prefers Jon's vocals on the box set version of Starting All Over Again.

The only part that's a bit hard to listen too is the 'get back home to youuuuu' where he sounds really rough but I do prefer the rest for some reason.
