Out of Exile - Audioslave
It's not Soundgarden, it's not Rage Against the Machine and it isn't even Audioslave as we know them from their debut album. If anything it sounds more like Cornell's solo album 'Euphoria Morning'.
Knowing that this album will be very different, I tried to step back and listen to it without any expectations whatsoever. I like it, though I truly miss Soundgarden. The album is a lot mellower, though it does have few rocking tracks. #1 Zero is the closest we'll get to SG, I think. Anyways, I guess Cornell is happy now and has left his raging, dark and suicidal past and moved on to happy shiny places and the album reflects that very much. It's a good rock album and his voice is great as always. Tracks as follows: 1. Your Time Has Come 2. Out Of Exile 3. Be Yourself 4. Doesn't Remind Me 5. Drown Me Slowly 6. Heaven's Dead 7. The Worm 8. Man Or Animal 9. Yesterday To Tomorrow 10. Dandelion 11. #1 Zero 12. The Curse My favorite: "Doesn't Remind Me" I walk the streets of Japan till I get lost Cause it doesn't remind me of anything With a graveyard tan carrying a cross Cause it doesn't remind me of anything I like studying faces in a parking lot Cause it doesn't remind me of anything I like driving backwards in the fog Cause it doesn't remind me of anything [Chorus] The things that I've loved the things that I've lost The things I've held sacred that I've dropped I won't lie no more you can bet I don't want to learn what I'll need to forget I like gypsy moths and radio talk Cause it doesn't remind me of anything I like gospel music and canned applause Cause it doesn't remind me of anything I like colorful clothing in the sun Cause it doesn't remind me of anything I ilke hammering nails and speaking in tongues Cause it doesn't remind me of anything [Chorus] The things that I've loved the things that I've lost The things I've held sacred that I've dropped I won't lie no more you can bet I don't want to learn what I'll need to forget Bend and shape me I love the way you are Slow and sweetly Like never before Calm and sleeping We won't stir up the past So descretely We won't look back [Chorus] The things that I've loved the things that I've lost The things I've held sacred that I've dropped I won't lie no more you can bet I don't want to learn what I'll need to forget I like throwing my voice and breaking guitars Cause it doesn't remind me of anything I like playing in the sand what's mine is ours If it doesn't remind me of anything Can't stop singing that song :) |
I don't really like it to tell you the truth... Their single is the best song on the album... Their first album was much better and rocked harder!

I know what you are saying but the premise is that you cannot compare it with any of their previous work.
This may very well be another one of those records that completely sinc up with my life right now. :) The last one that did this was These Days - it's wicked but I absolutely 'feel it' with this one :) :) :) Go Cornell! |
You'd better be right, Maria. I just can seem to forget the first single. :(

Half the album is the "Be Yourself" tempo and the lyrics are along those lines. (there is a pretty picture of chris in the booklet though LOL) |

Only taken one listen so far, but its sounding very good. First few tracks IMO aren't really all that great (although they may very well grow on me), but some of the later stuff sounds pretty great first time round
