America The Beautiful
 

Jon is doing a new video version of America The Beautiful 2011. From the pics I've seen, it looks very similar to the 2001 version. I didn't see Richie. No word on the vocals though.

The video will air Saturday on NBC EST between 8 and 9 PM (I believe)

Anyone with more info?

He sang it well, but lip synched to playback on the video footage. That part was kind of weak. But a nice tribute, nonetheless.

It was a little weak. What a difference 10 years can make. He recycled the vocals and the performance lacked the passion. However, The cause and heart were in the right place!!!!!

All they did was use the 2001 vocal, minus Richie.

Jon & Richie lip synched 10 years ago, so I pretty much expected that Jon would be doing that again this time. I didn't expect him to just use a re-edit of the same audio, though. IMO, the mood of the performance wasn't appropriate to either the audio or the occasion.

I really lol-ed at the refren when Jon started smiling and moving all over the place like a 8-year old...

Also I would like to see him really SING it... I think that then he won't be smiling cuz of the effort :P

Does anybody know who wrote this song?

I thought Jon looked particularly Hollywood fake. Coiffed hair, teeth way too white for non-arena events, probably recently botoxed given that with all his serious intensity at the beginning of the song there were no "frowny" lines between his eyes...obviously mimed. A show rather than a heart-felt performance of the song. I thought it was kind of icky and was embarrassed. America the Beautiful is not a hard song to sing ffs. I did like the other concert clips shown during the show.

Shame about the re-hashed audio, loved the sentiment once again though!

They lip synched the first time because Jon was too emotional to sing it and kept on breaking down. This time, I don't understand why he had to mine it again. Was it NBC who told him to mine it or is it a case where it's hard to sound good singing in a fire station (echo and sound wise) I don't have a clue but it was not a performance that I was expecting and as you said did not fit the occasion.

It would've been slightly better if he mimed over new audio, but lipsyncing to 10 year old audio? Come on, that's extremely lazy.

It was absolutely shocking. I dont know why he didn't just sing it live. In my opinion it was an insult to Americans. He may as well not bothered going to be honest. And that fake tan....looked like David Dickinson

I agree with everything that you said but just wanted to point out that the tan is not fake. That's his tan. He has been on holidays ever since the end of the tour. First in Croatia and then back home. I know, not important but just wanted to point that out.
