How to perform a ballad in the 80's 101...
I'll Be There For You from Giants Stadium 1989 with a new Soundboard source (enhancing older recordings a lot, starting 1:46 into the song). Breathtaking!

That is absolutely epic, Richie really shines in this too.

Found a great Always performance that hasn't been brought up often from Edmonton 2010. Jon was rumored to have been sick, but he sounded amazing anyway, and Richie goes for an extended outro solo because Tico misses his usual ending spot :-D Truly the band's Indian summer :)

Excellent. That final chorus after the outro solo is gorgeous. The power and control Jon had in voice back then was brilliant.

Always, Des Moines, Iowa, 2008.

We'd had glimpses on this tour, but this was the confirmation that Jon had rekindled something in his voice we all thought he'd lost. New technique, slightly different arrival point on certain notes, but a pitch we hadn't heard for years. It was a shock, honestly. Hear the woman say 'oh wow' as he nails the end of the second chorus. I guess we had about 3 years of this voice

This was a voice.

Thanks for this. I remember the moment. Now, it seems 5 years is nothing (2019 from todays perspective), but somehow then it seemed that song was not performed in eternity. I guess similar to how Prayer and Its my life are 14 years apart (only!). Then it seemed as completely different eras of music. Now, 14 years has passed since The Circle (and more), but no change in style basically

EDIT: I say 5 years, because apparently Always in original was last performed in 2003, as stated under the video

Yep, this had been the last proper performance of it - Zurich 2003:
